The career of former WBC middleweight boxing champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. appears to be all but over after his third loss in his past four fights, but that hasn’t prevented him from absorbing one more beating.
This setback, however, involved finances rather than fisticuffs.

The name Julio Cesar Chavez is revered in international boxing circles.
Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. won world titles as a super featherweight, lightweight, and light welterweight beginning in 1984 and was a fighting machine for more than two decades. He was already 43-0 when he captured the vacant WBC super featherweight championship in 1984 and would fight another 72 times before hanging up the gloves 21 years later.
Chavez Sr. finished with a record of 107-6-2 — two of the losses were to Oscar De La Hoya — and scored 86 knockouts. He also set a record with 27 title defenses. His record includes wins over the likes of Hector “Macho” Camacho. The Ring magazine rated him the world’s best pound-for-pound fighter four straight years beginning in 1990. The Boxing Writers Association of America twice named him Fighter of the Year.
Two sons followed Chavez into boxing, and namesake Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., who turned pro in 2003, also became a champion.
Chavez Jr. had built a 41-0-1 record and had already captured several minor belts when he won the WBC middleweight champion from Sebastian Zbik in 2011. He surrendered the title in a loss by unanimous decision to Sergio Martinez 15 months later at the age of 26 and began to fade from there. A loss in his most recent fight left his record at 51-5-1.

Former world middleweight boxing champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., 34, appears to be at the end of the line in his career following a sixth-round loss via technical decision to Mario Abel Cazares on Sept. 25, 2020, in Tijuana, Mexico. It was just his fourth fight since the start of 2017 and his third loss in that span.
Chavez’s previous fight ended when he did not come out of the corner for the start of the sixth round against Daniel Jacobs in December 2019 and raised questions about his future.
The most recent bout was seen as a rebound opportunity since Cazares, 30, was lightly regarded despite an 11-0 record. However, Chavez shut down with 41 seconds left in the sixth round of the scheduled 10-round fight, citing a cut over his eye. Cazares was ahead on all three judges’ cards at the time, according to World Boxing News.

Boxing star Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. reported to police that he was robbed of $750,000 in valuables during a break-in at his Los Angeles home, TMZ.com reported Oct. 27, 2020.
Chavez and his wife were reportedly out of town last week, and the thieves are believed to have gained access through a bathroom window.
According to the website, Chavez reported that a small safe holding $600,000 in jewelry and designer purses was taken. They also listed about $150,000 of other valuables as missing from the house.
According to the website, Chavez’s wife Frida was previously married to Edgar Guzman Lopez — the son of the drug cartel kingpin Joaquin Guzman, widely known as El Chapo. Lopez was killed in a 2008 shooting.
TMZ reported that police investigating the robbery have not made an arrest or named potential suspects.
