Deion Sanders, With His New Look, Digs the Atlanta Falcons' New-Look Uniforms

Deion Sanders began his Hall-of-Fame NFL career wearing the red and black of the Atlanta Falcons. His former team recently unveiled their new uniforms for the upcoming season and he gave the Falcons a thumbs-up. Sanders, sporting a new look of his own, only had one real gripe about the uniforms.

‘Prime Time' was a legend in Atlanta

The Atlanta Falcons selected the flashy Deion Sanders with the fifth overall selection in the 1989 NFL draft. The draft was top-heavy with future NFL stars, including Troy Aikman, Barry Sanders, Derrick Thomas, and Andre Rison.

The man known as ‘Prime Time' spent the first five seasons of his NFL career with the Falcons as one of the top defensive backs in the game. Sanders collected 24 interceptions in those five seasons and also recovered six fumbles.

Sanders, who also played professional baseball, was also an exciting and dominant special teams player. He returned a pair of punts for touchdowns with the Falcons and also had three kickoff returns for scored. In 1992, he returned two kickoffs for touchdowns and led the league with 1,067 return yards. With the Falcons alone, Sanders made three Pro Bowls and was named First-Team All-Pro in two seasons.

It wasn't just in Atlanta where Deion Sanders took charge on the football field. After his five seasons with the Falcons, Sanders played one season with the San Francisco 49ers where he had his best season in professional football.

In 1994, Sanders had six interceptions, returning three of them for touchdowns. He was named the Associated Press Defensive Player of the Year and helped the 49ers win the Super Bowl. His time in San Francisco was short-lived as he hooked up with the Dallas Cowboys in 1995.

Sanders was selected to the Pro Bowl in four of his five seasons with the Cowboys. In total, he made the Pro Bowl eight times in his career. He was All-Pro in six seasons. Prime Time was also named to the NFL’s 100th Anniversary All-Time Team and was a two-time Super Bowl champion. Sanders was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011.

During his time in quarantine, Deion Sanders has let his beard grow out. He was sporting the thick, gray beard as a guest on NFL's Total Access earlier this week. When host Andrew Siciliano commented on the beard, telling Sanders it looked good, the always-confident Sanders responded with, “I know.”

When the Falcons revealed their new uniforms on Wednesday, Sanders was happy, but he's not in the majority. Mostly the Falcons were panned, though that has to be taken into proper context because every new logo, uniform, and mascot that isn’t a callback to a previous era gets shredded on social media.

Sanders had one gripe. “I absolutely love ‘em,” Sanders said on NFL Network. “Although I wish they would have incorporated red pants. I need red pants.”

The only other critique Sanders had didn't have anything to do with the look of the uniforms. “Only thing I don’t like about the Falcons uniforms is I really do think they need to take No. 21 and put it up in the rafters and leave it alone,” Sanders said. “Leave it alone! LEAVE IT ALONE!”
