Ex-Raiders DE Chandler Jones Pleads No Contest, May Avoid Jail

Former Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Chandler Jones received a suspended 90-day jail sentence on June 17 after receiving two domestic violence charges last fall, Taylor Lane of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.

Jones, 34, will avoid jail time if he stays out of trouble for six months through Dec. 17 and has no contact with the victim outside of Family Court orders. The 6-foot-5, 265-pound edge rusher entered a no contest plea that led to one of his domestic violence charges being dismissed, per Lane.

Jones did not play in 2023, leaving the Raiders on Labor Day weekend after publishing a series of social media posts directed at the team, owner Mark Davis, then-general manager Dave Ziegler, and then-coach Josh McDaniels.

The Instagram Live video that Jones posted on X ended with him crying and talking about McDaniels and former New England Patriots teammate Aaron Hernandez.

“Y’all don’t know what Josh McDaniels really did to Aaron Hernandez. … Y’all thought Aaron Hernandez killed himself in jail,” Jones said, breaking down and then cutting off the stream.

Jones and Hernandez were Patriots teammates while McDaniels was the team’s offensive coordinator.

Furthermore, the Raiders placed him on the non-football injury/illness list Sept. 20 and released him 10 days later after he was arrested for violating a domestic violence protective order.

Jones was arrested again in October 2023 for the same reason

Police said in an arrest report that Jones got naked and burned the woman’s belongings that he stole from her backyard, including a recycling bin, pool net, and dog toys.

According to Clark County (Nevada) court documents, he was arrested again last October for the same reason. He was charged with two misdemeanors in September. However, one of those charges was dismissed when he made his plea, according to the records.

On Feb. 5, 2024, Jones entered a plea of not guilty to two charges of violating a protective order.

Jones released a statement in February, saying he was “feeling much better.” He was in the second season of a three-year, $51 million contract he signed with the Raiders when he was released for conduct detrimental to the team.

A hearing on the status of the requirements imposed in the case is set for Oct. 29.
