Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski won three Super Bowl titles together as members of the New England Patriots. Both are now on the roster of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, whose chances of winning Super Bowl 55 have risen dramatically since bringing in the dynamic duo.

However, history certainly isn't favorable to the Bucs as it pertains to this upcoming season. Bringing in Brady and Gronkowski certainly makes them playoff contenders, which is obviously a good thing for the franchise as they haven't been to the postseason since 2007. In fact, Tampa Bay has had just three winning seasons in the last dozen years. But they'll certainly have a lot of attention coming their way when the season begins this fall. They'll also have the chance to do something that no NFL team has ever done.

Tom Brady played an incredible 20 seasons with the New England Patriots, helping the franchise to a record six Super Bowl victories in nine appearances, which is also an NFL record. Rob Gronkowski was on the final three Super Bowl-winning teams with Brady and is actually the person that has caught the most touchdown passes from the four-time Super Bowl MVP, 78 in the regular season and another 12 in the postseason.

After two decades in New England, Tom Brady signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last month once the NFL's free agency period began. Rob Gronkowski spent the last year away from the NFL, spending some of his retirement time with WWE. However, once Brady's move to Tampa Bay was finalized, Gronk ended that retirement and will now join his former quarterback with the Bucs following a blockbuster trade that changed the landscape of the 2020 season.

No NFL team has ever reached the Super Bowl in its home stadium

There have been 54 Super Bowls played since its inception in 1967 and not once has an NFL team reached the title game in its own stadium, let alone won it. In fact, only four teams that were hosting the Super Bowl in a given year have even made the NFL postseason.

Ahead of Super Bowl XXIX at Joe Robbie Stadium, the 1994 Miami Dolphins made the postseason but lost to the eventual champion San Diego Chargers, 22-21, in the divisional round after taking a 21-6 lead into the second half. Four years later, the Dolphins again lost in the divisional round in a year Miami hosted the Super Bowl, that time to the Denver Broncos, 38-3.

In 2016, ahead of Super Bowl LI at NRG Stadium in Houston, the Texans lost to the New England Patriots in the divisional round, 34-16. The following year, the Minnesota Vikings came the closest any team has to playing a Super Bowl in their own stadium by making it to the NFC Championship but were blown out by the Philadelphia Eagles, 38-7.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will host Super Bowl LV at Raymond James Stadium on February 7, 2021. With Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski now on the roster, the Bucs have become one of the favorites this upcoming NFL season and would make instant history by just getting to the game. It's certainly easier said than done but plenty of eyes will be on Tampa Bay this season and there's no doubt that Brady and Gronk are thinking about adding to their already-incredible legacies.
