Dallas Cowboys' two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Trevon Diggs is a star on the Dallas Cowboys defense. After gaining a reputation as a diva wide receiver as a Minnesota Viking, Buffalo Bills wideout Stefon Diggs has become one of the best players in the league at his position. The question is, are Trevon Diggs and Stefon Diggs related?
Stefon Diggs and Trevon Diggs are brothers
The answer is yes. Stefon Diggs is Trevon Diggs' older brother. The two NFL stars join a relatively small handful of brothers who've made it to football's highest level. This exclusive list includes well-known football families such as the Mannings, Watts, McCourtys, Barbers, Kelces, and Sharpes.
Stefon and Trevon Diggs, along with their brother and sister, grew up in Maryland. Aron Diggs, the NFL players' father, died in 2008 of congestive heart failure, and Stefon became a father figure to Trevon and his other younger brother and sister, according to ESPN.
Four years later, Stefon left for college but stayed close to home at the University of Maryland. In three seasons as a Terp, the wideout caught 150 balls for 2,227 yards and scored 14 touchdowns.
After heading to the Minnesota Vikings with the No. 146 overall pick in the 2015 draft, Stefon made a name for himself as one of the best receivers in the league before a trade sent him to Buffalo in 2020.
Younger brother Trevon went to Alabama as a receiver just like his brother, but coach Nick Saban convinced the incredible athlete to switch to cornerback. In three seasons on defense, Trevon made 68 tackles, picked off four balls, and recovered two fumbles while also returning kicks.
The Dallas Cowboys picked Trevon in the second round of the 2020 draft. The corner started 11 games as a rookie and is the team's top corner in year two.
One side note, the Diggs brothers aren't the only Diggs in the NFL. Seattle Seahawks safety Quandre Diggs is not related to the Cowboys and Bills stars. However, Quandre is the half-brother of former Chargers great Quintin Jammer, per ESPN.
Trevon Diggs is a star on the Dallas Cowboys defense
Trevon Diggs had a solid rookie season in 2020, playing in 12 games and making three interceptions. However, he truly burst onto the NFL scene in 2021.
In his second pro season, Trevon led the league with a stunning 11 interceptions. Only 13 NFL players have ever picked off 11 or more balls in a season, and the Cowboys CB became the first to do it since 1981. He also returned two INTs for touchdowns and had a league-leading 142 return yards.
During the 2022 season, Trevon only had three picks, but much of that was due to quarterbacks staying away from him after his dominating performance the season prior.
Trevon's ball-hawking ability is helping him establish a reputation as one of the best young defensive playmakers in the league, much like his brother is one of the most dangerous offensive weapons in the NFL.
Heading into the 2023 season, Trevon is in the final year of his rookie contract and is in line for a massive contract extension. Whether it happens before 2023 kicks off or after the season, his next deal should approach $20 million per season, which is what the top CBs in the league make.
Stefon Diggs is one of the best wide receivers in the league for the Buffalo Bills
Stefon went from fifth-round pick to star receiver in five seasons with the Vikings. He made 365 receptions for 4,623 yards and 30 touchdowns in the Twin Cities. In 2019, his relationship with the team soured, and the franchise shipped him to Buffalo.
With this change of scenery, Stefon became an All-Pro WR in 2020. He led the league in receptions (127) and receiving yards (1,535) last season while helping the Bills win the AFC East for the first time since 1995 and make the AFC Championship game.
After a slow start to the 2021 season, Stefon rallied and once again made the Pro Bowl for the Bills. While his brother, Trevon, had the same number of touchdowns through the first six games, Stefon ended the season with 103 catches for 1,225 yards and 10 TDs.
In the 2022 season, Stefon was once again the Bills' biggest weapon on offense. He put up 108 catches for 1,429 yards and scored 11 times on his way to his third consecutive Pro Bowl and a second-team All-Pro nod.
The older Diggs brother signed a four-year contract extension in the 2022 offseason and is currently the sixth-highest-paid WR in the NFL, making an average of $24 million per season.
