Two of the greatest competitive eaters will square off in Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef.

Chestnut and Kobayashi became fierce rivals on the competitive eating circuit in the early 2000s.

The two have dominated the Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog-Eating Contest. Kobayashi won six consecutive times from 2001–2006 while Chesnut is a 16-time winner, including eight straight victories since 2016.

The two rivals have not faced each other in a hot dog competition since 2009.

“Through all of my years in competitive eating, Kobayashi stands out as my fiercest rival,” Chestnut told Netflix. “Competing against him pushed me to be so much better. I know that fans have waited a long time for another chapter of our rivalry and I can’t wait for our massive showdown live on Netflix! It’s time to give the people what they want!”

Kobayashi was banned from the hot dog contest after refusing to sign a contract with Major League Eating. Now, Kobayashi gets a shot at redemption.

“Retiring for me will only happen after I take him down one last time,” Kobayashi told Netflix. “This rivalry has been brewing for a long time. Competing against Joey live on Netflix means fans all over the world can watch me knock him out.”

Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef will stream live on Netflix on September 2. The location and timing have not been determined. The competition will feature all-beef hot dogs.

The announcement of Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef comes one day after the news that Chestnut will not compete in the 2024 Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest.

Chestnut recently signed a sponsorship deal with Impossible Foods to endorse a vegan hot dog made from plants.

Major League Eating will not allow Chesnut to compete in Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest as long as he's associated with the vegan hot dog.

The 2024 Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest is scheduled for July 4 in Coney Island, New York.
