49ers Sign WR Jauan Jennings Through 2025 With $10.5M Deal

The San Francisco 49ers have signed restricted free agent wide receiver Jauan Jennings to a two-year contract that will keep him in the Bay Area through the 2025 season. Jennings, who has emerged as the team's reliable third receiver option over the past three seasons, did not sign his restricted free agent tender.

His new deal is akin to a one-year extension. Jennings' new contract is worth up to $15.4 million, including $10.5 million guaranteed, agents Drew and Jason Rosenhaus informed ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Additionally, Jennings had not been participating in organized team activities because he was not under contract, as he and the Niners were in the process of negotiating a deal.

Jennings, who turns 27 in July, was selected 217th overall by the 49ers in the seventh round of the 2020 draft out of Tennessee. The 6-foot-3, 212-pound wideout has played in 45 regular-season games (seven starts) and has made 78 receptions for 963 yards and seven touchdowns. He serves as one of the Niners' best outside run blockers as well.

In the 2023 season, Jennings appeared in 13 games and made two starts. He had 19 receptions for 265 yards and one touchdown. In the 49ers' 25-22 overtime loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII, Jennings caught four of his five targets for 42 yards and a touchdown. He also threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Christian McCaffrey.

Jennings became the second player in Super Bowl history to throw for a touchdown and catch a touchdown, joining Nick Foles in Super Bowl LII. He could have potentially been named the game's Most Valuable Player, had the 49ers defeated Kansas City in overtime.

Veteran tight end George Kittle praised Jennings

“I think every single person in the NFL that watches tape, every general manager, every scout, anybody that watches tape, they look at Jauan's film and they're like, ‘Holy cow, this guy is one of one,'” tight end George Kittle said. “His mindset and his attitude when he's on a football field is completely different.

“He goes to that dark place that Coach Shanahan will talk about with like Pierre Garcon. And he just is very violent in the way that he plays the game, which you don't see in all receivers. He will hit defensive ends as hard as he can. He'll hit linebackers as hard as he can. And he's not scared of anything.”

Furthermore, San Francisco placed the second-round tender on Jennings in March, which meant Jennings could explore a new deal elsewhere. However, the Niners had the right to match any outside offer or receive a second-round option if they did not match.

Niners are still working on extending wideout Brandon Aiyuk

Although Jauan Jennings did not receive any outside offers, he also had not signed his tender. This explains why he was required to skip OTAs in Santa Clara. Following his signing, Jennings was spotted on the field Wednesday as the Niners held their second OTA open to media personnel.

The 49ers have agreed to similar short-term deals in recent seasons with other players, including linebacker Dre Greenlaw and right tackle Colton McKivitz. San Francisco still has yet to sign wideout Brandon Aiyuk to a long-term contract extension.

Aiyuk's deal is expected to be a much larger and longer deal. Last season, he set a career-high 1,342 receiving yards and averaged a career-best 17.9 receiving yards per reception. The four-year veteran has not been participating in the voluntary portion of the offseason program.
