Bally’s Temporary Casino in Chicago hit record-high levels of revenue in May

In May 2024, Bally’s Chicago posted its best monthly gross gaming revenue with $11.73 million. That was reported by the Illinois Gaming Control Board (IGCB). Their slot machines accounted for $6.8 million and table games won $4.75 million. This temporary casino location opened last September. Mark Wong is the General manager and VP of Bally’s Chicago. He believes their continued growth demonstrates their popularity in the market Last month they climbed over the 90,000 person mark. Bally's Chicago features 800 slot machines and 56 live dealer table games.
What is holding Bally’s Chicago from starting to build its permanent casino location?
Bally’s Chicago will continue to operate in Illinois as the Bally’s Corp. waits to build its permanent resort property. Early next month, they are expected to take possession of the former Chicago Tribune printing plant. Additionally, the industry operator plans to have their permanent casino in Chicago open in 2026. They will have a 500-room hotel, a 3,000-seat theatre, 10 restaurants, and a casino with 4,000 gaming positions. When they open to the public, Bally’s Chicago will be the largest casino in the state.
Funding is one issue holding Bally’s back. However, GM Mark Wong is not worried. He said the casino is still on track to open in September 2026. Bally’s is seeking roughly $800 million to support the $1.7 billion needed to build their permanent casino in Chicago. They need additional funding because Bally’s is not making the money they projected to make. Last year, they estimated $242.7 million could be made in 2024, roughly $20.22 million a month. Year to date, Bally’s has made $52.36 million. Only $10.47 million. Well-below the numbers they projected.
Demolition is expected to start soon in Chicago
Bally’s is taking over the complex formerly owned by the Chicago Tribune in the Freedom Center. They paid $150 million for the property. Mark Wong said they will start prepping for demolition once they take full ownership next month. The Freedom Center opened in 1982.
