Celtics' Al Horford Becomes Fourth NBA Player With These Stats

Boston Celtics center Al Horford is the fourth player in NBA history to record at least 16,000 points, 10,000 rebounds, 4,000 assists, 1,000 blocks, and 900 steals in his regular season and playoff career.

Horford, who turned 38 years old on Monday, has amassed 16,407 points, 10,045 rebounds, 4,095 assists, 1,477 blocks, and 976 steals in his regular and postseason NBA career.

NBA Hall of Famers Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Tim Duncan, and Kevin Garnett are the only players in league history who matched or exceeded all five marks in their playing careers.

Through 15 playoff games this postseason, Horford is averaging 9.9 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.0 block, and 30.3 minutes per game while shooting 47.1% from the field and 34.9% from 3-point range.

In Boston's 107-89 win over the Dallas Mavericks in Game 1 of the 2024 NBA Finals on Thursday night, he posted 10 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two blocks in 29 minutes of action.

According to NBA tracking, when Horford was the primary defender of Luka Doncic, the Mavs star shot 1-of-8 from the floor and 0-of-4 from beyond the arc.

Mavericks were held to 5-of-19 shooting against Horford

The Celtics' big man also held Doncic to just one block and two points.

Dallas was 5-of-19 (26.3%) shooting from the field against Horford overall.

“Everyone was really locked in on the defensive end,” Horford told reporters after the game. “The things that we needed to do, we just wanted to be very solid throughout.”

Although Kristaps Porzingis made his return after spending more than a month on the sideline with a calf injury, Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla decided to keep Horford in the starting lineup.

Porzingis, 28, added 20 points, six rebounds, and three blocks in just 21 minutes off the bench.

“Tonight was affirmation to myself that I’m pretty good,” Porzingis said. “I’m not perfect but I can play like this, and I can add to this team.”

Dallas had just five assists through the first three quarters, the fewest any NBA team has had through 36 minutes in any game in the last three seasons.

The Celtics will have a chance to take a 2-0 series lead when they host the Mavericks for Game 2 on Sunday, June 9.
