For the first time, the NCAA CFP moves from four teams to 12 for the next two seasons.
The 12 teams consist of the five highest-ranked conference champions and the next seven highest-ranked teams.
The top four seeds will receive a first-round bye. Seeds five through eight will host the first-round games. The matchups: No. 5 vs. No. 12, No. 6 vs. No. 11, No. 7 vs. No. 10, and No. 8 vs. No. 9.
The quarterfinals will be broadcast on ESPN/ABC and TNT.

The quarterfinals will be played on December 31, 2024, and January 1, 2025. The semifinals will be played on January 9, 2025, and January 1, 2025.
The quarterfinals and semifinals consist of the New Year's Six games — Vrbo Fiesta Bowl, Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, Rose Bowl Game presented by Prudential, Allstate Sugar Bowl, Capital One Orange Bowl, and Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic.
The College Football Playoff National Championship will be played at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Monday, January 20, 2025.
