Dave Portnoy Goes All-In on Caitlin Clark's Indiana Fever WNBA Debut After Placing 25K Bet

Over the last five months, Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy has cashed in on some long-term bets. He’s won over $5.4 million. The 47-year-old won $1.5 million when Michigan and Washington won their college football playoff semi-final games. Next up for Portnoy was a future on the Kansas City Chiefs to win the Super Bowl. When that long-term bet also hit, Portnoy won another $500K. 

His hot betting streak was not over. Dave bet $600,000 on the UConn Huskies Men’s Basketball team to win the NCAA Tournament. Danny Hurley led the Huskies to their second-straight national title. Dave Portnoy cashed in once again and won $2.1 million. It doesn’t stop there. He has $150,000 on the Edmonton Oilers to win the Stanley Cup Finals. Edmonton is still in the second round vs. Vancouver trying to make the Conference Finals. 

Before Caitlin Calark’s official WNBA debut, Dave Portnoy bet $25,000 on the Indiana Fever to cover an eight-point spread vs. the Connecticut Sun. For some, that seems like an extremely high wager for a WNBA game. However, that is a normal bet that Portnoy places.

Caitlin Calrk and the Fever struggled in their first game of the season

The Indiana Fever were on the road last night to face the Connecticut Sun. It was an eight-point spread favoring the Sun and Dave Portnoy bet the Fever to cover. Heading into the game, many people believed Caitlin Clark would come out and lead the Fever to a win in her WNBA debut. That was not the case for Clark who did not put up her normal production we saw from her at the collegiate level. 

Clark played a team-high 32 minutes, scoring a team-high 20 points and had three assists. She was 6-6 from the free-throw line. However, she went just 4-11 from deep. We’ve seen Clark hit some incredible shots from behind the arc in college. That was not true for her WNBA debut. The Fever lost 92-71 and Dave Portnoy did not win his bet. He would have won just over $48,000 if the Fever would have covered the spread. 

Next up for the Indiana Fever is the New York Liberty. A team that made the WNBA Finals last season but lost to the Las Vegas Aces. The Liberty won their season opener 85-80 last night vs. the Mystics. Can Caitlin Clark brush off a shaky performance in her WNBA debut and help lead the Fever to a win in game two?
