Jaylen Brown Receives $369K Bonus For Reaching Conference Finals

Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown is receiving a $369K bonus for reaching the Eastern Conference finals this postseason. This bonus is among his incentives outlined in the five-year, $304 million supermax contract extension he signed with the Celtics last offseason.

Brown, 27, is projected to make $49.35 million in the 2024-25 season, $53.29 million in 2025-26, $57.24 million in 2026-27, $61.19 million in 2027-28, and $65.14 million in 2028-29. The eight-year NBA veteran was not eligible for a no-trade clause because he signed an extension.

Although his salaries are just estimates based on the 2024-25 salary cap projection of $141 million, Brown's average annual salary is $57.24 million. ESPN's Bobby Marks says Brown could earn as much as $69.1 million in 2028-29.

Unless a new deal is signed, the three-time All-Star will become an unrestricted free agent after the 2028-29 season.

Brown's deal exceeds three-time MVP Nikola Jokic's $276 million extension with the Denver Nuggets. The 6-foot-6 guard could receive another bonus in the future if Boston wins the NBA Finals.

The Celtics have now made the playoffs in each of Brown's eight seasons, including the NBA Finals in 2022 and six Eastern Conference finals trips.

In Boston's series-clinching Game 5 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers in the East semifinals on Wednesday night, Brown recorded 11 points, four rebounds, and seven assists in 40 minutes of action.

“We needed to come out with some more energy. We came out a little bit flat,” Brown said after the win. “That game plan was to try to make me a passer. You know, we just had to keep making the right play and trusting it.”

The Cavs got off to a hot start in the first half, going toe to toe with Boston. While trailing by a couple of baskets in the second quarter, the Celtics managed to rally and close the frame with an 18-6 run to take a 58-52 lead into halftime.

“It made us answer the bell,” Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla said. “Guard your yard. The guys did it. It’s a credit to them.”

Through 10 playoff games this postseason, Brown is averaging 23.1 points, 6.6 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 35.1 minutes per game. He's also shooting 55.4% from the field, 36.7% from beyond the arc, and 61.4% at the foul line.

The Celtics will play the winner of the Indiana Pacers-New York Knicks semifinal series in the Eastern Conference finals.
