The 2022-23 English Premier League season didn't start out as planned for Manchester United. The football club's superstar Cristiano Ronaldo requested a transfer, the team lost its EPL opener to Brighton, and then got embarrassed 4-0 by Brentford on Matchday 2. To help right the ship, the club could bring in a new player before the summer transfer window closes on September 1. The latest Manchester United transfer rumor suggests the Glazer family plans on doing just that. Man United's newest target is reportedly Real Madrid star midfielder Casemiro.
The latest Manchester United transfer rumor has the club targeting Real Madrid's Casemiro
Prior to the most recent Manchester United transfer rumor involving Casemiro, reports tied the club to Juventus defensive midfielder Adrien Rabiot and Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong.
Despite reaching an agreement with the Italian and Spanish clubs on fees for the players, the deals didn't materialize. De Jong reportedly didn't want to leave Barcelona, and United couldn't come to terms on a contact with Rabiot, per The Athletic.
With those two options off the table, Man U is now looking at Real Madrid veteran midfielder Casemiro.
The 30-year-old Brazilian has been with Real Madrid since 2013, when he moved from his native country to Europe. Casemiro has been part of one of the most successful generations in his storied club's history during that time.
Since settling into Los Blancos' starting lineup in 2015, Casemiro has helped the team win three La Liga titles, a Cope del Ray, and a staggering five UEFA Champions League trophies.
By winning the UCL title this year, Casemiro joined an impressive list of legends with five Champions League trophies. That's one behind all-time leader Paco Gento's six.
In Manchester United's two shocking losses already this season, new manager Erik ten Hag has started Fred in defensive midfield. Casemiro, with his expert passing, aggressive two-way ability, and big boot from outside the box, would be a massive upgrade at the position.
However, the 30-year-old doesn't fit Ten Hag's Man United youth movement as well as Rabiot (27) or De Jong (25). That's one of the reasons this Manchester United transfer rumor is still just a rumor.
