With all the uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic and sports, the 2020 college football season seems as if it's slowly dying more and more each day. First, the Ivy League canceled all fall sports. Then, individual schools started to announce they wouldn't be participating in football this season. Most recently, the Big Ten and Pac-12 both voted to cancel their fall football seasons.
College football is now on life support, but maybe a recent endorsement from Trevor Lawrence and President Donald Trump can give the season a much-needed boost.

The coronavirus has taken away multiple sporting events since it started to infect the country in March. Within a matter of hours, the NCAA Basketball Tournament, the NBA season, the NHL season, the PGA Tour, and more were either canceled or postponed due to COVID-19.
Many professional sports leagues have returned to action after a four-month hiatus, but the NCAA is still scrambling to make a decision on the upcoming college football season.
Unfortunately for football fans, it seems as if they won't even have much a decision at all. Teams and individual conferences are pulling out of the 2020 season left and right. On Monday, reports surfaced about the Big Ten and Pac-12 canceling their seasons, and the remaining conferences are sure to follow.
With the coronavirus still affecting a large portion of the United States, college football may be doomed.

The decision to cancel the 2020 college football season will ultimately be up to the NCAA and the schools themselves, but that isn't stopping college athletes from voicing their opinion.
Many college football stars have expressed their desire to play in 2020. Trevor Lawrence, Clemson's star quarterback and one of the 2020 Heisman favorites, recently took to Twitter to plead his case.
People are at just as much, if not more risk, if we don’t play. Players will all be sent home to their own communities where social distancing is highly unlikely and medical care and expenses will be placed on the families if they were to contract covid19. Not to mention the players coming from situations that are not good for them/ their future and having to go back to that. Football is a safe haven for so many people. We are more likely to get the virus in everyday life than playing football. Having a season also incentivizes. Players being safe and taking all of the right precautions to try to avoid contracting covid because the season/ teammates safety is on the line. Without the season, as we’ve seen already, people will not social distance or wear masks and take the proper precautions.

Donald Trump tweets his support for the 2020 college football season

Donald Trump is never one to mince words online. He tells it how it is, and he's never afraid to call out those who deserve it.
On Monday, President Trump tweeted his support for the #WeWantToPlay movement. He quoted Lawrence's tweet, saying, “The student-athletes have been working too hard for their season to be cancelled. #WeWantToPlay“
Will Trump's tweet be enough to save the college football season? Probably not. But football fans should feel a bit encouraged with the leader of the free world on their side. Maybe he can pull some strings and ensure there will be football this fall.
