Bashaud Breeland, who led the Kansas City Chiefs defense in tackles and added an interception in the Super Bowl victory over the San Francisco 49ers just a few months ago, has been arrested in South Carolina and booked on five counts.

Drafted out of Clemson by the Washington Redskins in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL draft, Bashaud Breeland played four seasons in Washington before spending a single season in Green Bay. He joined the Chiefs before the 2019 Super Bowl season, where he started 15 games at cornerback.
Breeland played well for the Kansas City secondary that was led by Tyrann Mathieu. During his first year with the Chiefs, he recorded 48 tackles, forced a couple of fumbles, including one run back for a touchdown, and pulled in a pair of interceptions.
In the Super Bowl win over the 49ers, Breeland came up big for the Chiefs when he hauled in an interception early in the second quarter off San Francisco quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. He finished the night with seven tackles to lead the team.
Breeland arrested and charged with five counts
The 28-year-old Chiefs cornerback was arrested Tuesday according to The Post and Courier, which obtained records from the York County Sheriff's Office. He was booked in Charlotte on Tuesday afternoon and charged with five counts: resisting arrest, the transport of alcohol in a motor vehicle with a broken seal, open container of beer or wine in motor vehicle, possession of 28 grams or less of marijuana or 10 grams of hash, and driving without a license.
The former Clemson star took to Twitter late Tuesday night to defend himself. In his post, Breeland offered a confusing depiction of the events that transpired, leading to his arrest. His description appeared to indicate he was at a gas station when a couple of men approached his vehicle and police officers arrived shortly thereafter.
“Lot of people wanna speculate On my situation and don’t know the facts I really was at a gas pump got approach by two guys police pulled up they throw something my car as police pulled up which the cop saw and I was the one detained with charges that really shouldn’t be charged.”
He added later he's not fighting to clear his name because he doesn't care what people think and he knows the truth. He ended with: “innocent until proven guilty.”
Breeland re-signed one-year deal in last few weeks
All of this comes just a matter of weeks after Breeland re-signed with the Super Bowl champs. Breeland, who was an unrestricted free agent, agreed to a one-year deal worth $4.5 million.
In his six years and 83 combined games in the NFL, Breeland has recorded 338 combined tackles, 72 passes defensed, five fumble recoveries, and 12 interceptions.
