Tiger Woods & Peyton Manning vs. Phil Mickelson & Tom Brady? Yes, Please

With the sports world shut down due to the COVID-19 outbreak, fans are looking for just about anything to happen right now. And if certain reports come true, we may just see four of the biggest stars of the last 25 years, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Tom Brady, and Peyton Manning, come together for a special event, an event that would actually include live action.

Phil Mickelson has hinted at a rematch with Tiger Woods

On November 23, 2018, Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson squared off in a one-on-one match-play event for a winner-take-all prize of nine million dollars. Side bets were also on the agenda that afternoon at Shadow Creek Golf Course in Las Vegas, totaling $800,000 that was later donated to charity.

Longtime rivals on the PGA Tour, Woods and Mickelson were all square after 18 holes and Lefty eventually won “The Match” on the 22nd hole. The event was set to air as a pay-per-view on “Bleacher Report Live” but a number of technical issues occurred and the match was streamed for free.

This past Monday, Mickelson hinted that a rematch may be in the works. When asked on Twitter about the prospect of once again teeing it up Tiger while the sports world is on lockdown, Phil said he was “working on it”, which naturally got people excited. However, there may be more than just Tiger vs. Phil coming our way, assuming Woods is healthy enough to compete anyway.

Tom Brady and Peyton Manning are being eyed as potential partners for Tiger and Phil

While another Tiger Woods vs. Phil Mickelson match would be amazing right now, given the lack of live sports, two other longtime rivals are being sought as playing partners and if a report from golf journalist Robert Lusetich is to be believed, the names being thrown around are Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. For 15 years, Tom Brady and Peyton Manning battled for supremacy in the AFC. The two met 17 times in the NFL with Brady winning 11 of those matchups. We know that Tiger and Phil would be throwing jabs at one another but could you imagine adding Brady and Manning to the mix and what some of those fireworks could look like?

What would the teams be?

If the two future Hall of Fame quarterbacks do end up joining this made-for-TV spectacle, it's likely that we'd see Tiger Woods pair up with Peyton Manning and Phil Mickelson partner with Tom Brady.

Woods and Manning have been friends for years and have actually teed it up together at various pro-ams ahead of PGA Tour events, most recently at the Memorial last year.

Phil Mickelson and Tom Brady have also played together in the past. In 2018, the duo took on Rickie Fowler and investment banker Jimmy Dunne III, with Brady sinking a clutch putt on the 18th hole of the match to seal the win for his team.

There are reports surfacing that the PGA Tour is already involved and that Turner Sports would be the television partner with the match being used as a charity benefit for COVID-19 relief. The match would take place on an empty course with limited crew on hand for filming and Woods, Mickelson, Brady, and Manning would adhere to the social-distancing guidelines and remain at least six feet away from one another.

This is nothing but good news if this comes to fruition. Four of the biggest sports stars of their generation playing a live sport to benefit a great cause. Let's hope this happens.
