How about a one-of-a-kind item that doesn\u2019t even exist until a player proves himself to be better than 99% of all the others in the history of the sport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nba\/2020\/01\/24\/basketball-hall-of-fame-auction-off-plaques-jordan-johnson\">going to auction<\/a> off the actual plaques used to enshrine some the greatest names in the sport \u2013 including <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/what-makes-michael-jordan-the-goat\/\">Michael Jordan<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Magic Johnson, Dr. J and Jerry West up for sale<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Earvin &quot;Magic&quot; Johnson&#039;s Basketball Hall of Fame Enshrinement Speech\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ad9UqapGC7o?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Plaques for earlier inductees such as Magic Johnson, Julius Erving and Jerry West will also be available alongside <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/michael-jordans-dream-job-isnt-what-youd-expect\/\">Michael Jordan<\/a>, with the bidding likely to get very competitive for such big names in the sport. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The items can land in the hands of\ntrue fans with loads of discretionary income or go to investors with an eye\ntoward turning a profit by reselling a few years down the road. Also, figure on\nsome businessman who owns a sports bar to throw good money at the opportunity\nto grab the plaque of a hometown hero.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 25-by-28-inch, black-and-white portraits have been displayed along the domed ceiling of the Springfield, Massachusetts, shrine over the years, but the display reached its capacity before the <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/5-takeaways-from-the-basketball-hall-of-fame-class-of-2019\/\">2019 induction ceremony<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 40,000-square-foot Hall of Fame is scheduled to close to the public from Feb. 3 to March 25 to complete the final phase of a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hoophall.com\/news\/naismith-memorial-basketball-hall-of-fame-enters-final-phase-of-multi-million-dollar-refurbishment\/\">$23 million overhaul<\/a>. When the complex re-opens, the more than 400 inductees will be displayed digitally in a different part of the museum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mickey Mantle is coveted but relatively common<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"New Jersey brothers find 5 &quot;holy grail&quot; Mickey Mantle baseball cards\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/xy3t_WkePVg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s difficult to tell what price the Hall of Fame plaque will fetch at auction. Certainly <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/what-made-michael-jordan-so-different-from-every-other-nba-player\/\">Michael Jordan<\/a> will be at or near the top of the list based on the way he ruled the sport during a run of six championships in eight years with the Chicago Bulls. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The real value probably lies in the uniqueness of the plaques. There are multiple <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/the-1-person-we-can-thank-for-mickey-mantle-wearing-no-7-with-the-yankees\/\">Mickey Mantle<\/a> rookie baseball cards and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beckett.com\/news\/world-record-price-for-t206-honus-wagner-baseball-card-3-million-and-counting\/\">Honus Wagner<\/a> tobacco cards put up for sale from time to time, fetching anywhere from $1 million to more than $3 million, but the operative word is \u201cmultiple.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Miss out on a Mantle card in April and there\u2019s a decent chance another will show up in an auction house in October. That can\u2019t happen with the NBA plaques. As was the case on the court, there could be only one <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/this-could-be-the-most-mysterious-event-of-michael-jordans-career\/\">Michael Jordan<\/a> plaque.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Babe Ruth is the gold standard of memorabilia<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Babe Ruth jersey breaks record at auction\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/w9Tm9yg_6Hc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Browse a sports fan\u2019s man\ncave and you\u2019ll find standard fare such as posters of popular athletes,\nbaseball caps of favorite teams and perhaps a home run ball reeled in at a\nMajor League Baseball game or a wristband flung into the crowd by an NBA star.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those might all be acquired\noff of eBay by dipping into the household loose change jar, but you will need\nto save up some serious coin for genuine Hall of Fame content that\nwould instantly upgrade the man cave to neighborhood museum status.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Collectibles related to the\nNew York Yankees have a history of being among the priciest in the sports world.\nThat\u2019s due in no small part to the franchise being the most successful in\nbaseball history while located in the nation\u2019s largest city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Siting at the top of the heap has to be jerseys worn by Babe Ruth. His 1920 jersey, the oldest known Yankees uniform worn by The Bambino, sold for $4,415,658 in 2012.
