{"id":1101200,"date":"2020-02-15T11:01:45","date_gmt":"2020-02-15T16:01:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sports7.us\/?p=1101200"},"modified":"2020-02-15T11:01:46","modified_gmt":"2020-02-15T16:01:46","slug":"what-was-the-highest-scoring-nba-all-star-game-ever","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sports7.us\/news\/what-was-the-highest-scoring-nba-all-star-game-ever\/","title":{"rendered":"What Was the Highest-Scoring NBA All-Star Game Ever?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>No\none genuinely expects to see an all-out effort to shut down the shooters in an\nexhibition game, but the casual approach to stopping the offenses bordered on indefensible\nin the 2017 NBA All-Star Game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That explains why it was both record-setting and entertaining for basketball fans around the world, who witnessed 48 minutes of offensive fireworks by the National Basketball Association\u2019s greatest players, including <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/lebron-james-hits-nothing-but-net-with-his-latest-idea\/\">LeBron James<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/why-giannis-antetokounmpos-shoes-are-more-special-than-you-think\/\">Giannis Antetokounmpo<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/james-harden-and-the-city-of-houston-have-a-deeper-connection-than-you-think\/\">James Harden<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The 2017 All-Star Game had controversy off the court<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"2017 NBA All-Star Game | Mini-Movie\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/C6SzE16ZiYU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>There\nwere two significant changes made to the NBA All-Stars Game, traditionally\nplayed shortly beyond the midpoint of the regular season, in 2017. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First,\na portion of the process to select the participants was taken out of the hands\nof the fans. Whereas fan voting had determined the starters for the Eastern and\nWestern Conference in the past, NBA players and media representatives were given\n25% of the vote apiece to help assure that the most deserving players would\nreceive appropriate consideration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nother change saw the honor of hosting the game stripped from Charlotte, North\nCarolina, and moved to New Orleans. The decision was the result of a controversial\nNorth Carolina law known as HB2, which was enacted a year earlier and restricted\nlocal governments from passing ordinances shielding LGBT individuals from\ndiscrimination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The final All-Star Game numbers were mind-numbing<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Giannis has turned down movies and commercials -- will this help his title chances? | The Jump\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/wPwkoty3LlM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The 66<sup>th<\/sup> NBA All-Star Game was played on Feb. 19, 2017, and resulted in a <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/53e7bcfab96544b2a415d8f7366c16b8\/Record-All-Star:-Davis-scores-52,-West-tops-East-192-182\">192-182 victory<\/a> by the Western Conference to break the contest record for combined points. Though they scored at least 47 points in each quarter, the Western stars came up just short of the one-team record of 196 points they set a season earlier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not surprisingly, some of the other statistics were amazing. With no meaningful defense being played (there were only eight free throws attempted), the teams combined to shoot 57.8% from the field and <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/giannis-antetokounmpo-had-a-humble-job-before-joining-the-nba\/\">Giannis Antetokounmpo<\/a> dunked a dozen times on his way to 30 points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There were 103 assists, including 10 by <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/kevin-durant-gets-real-about-his-injury-and-losing-to-the-raptors\/\">Kevin Durant<\/a> as he posted a triple-double in just 27 minutes of court time. <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/kyrie-irving-reveals-that-he-may-need-shoulder-surgery-after-all\/\">Kyrie Irving<\/a> generated 22 points and 14 assists. Kyle Lowry scored 19 points for just the ninth highest output of the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/this-1-thing-will-keep-russell-westbrook-from-being-an-elite-nba-player\/\">Russell Westbrook<\/a> posted 41 points in just 20 minutes \u2013 including hitting four shots from behind the arc in a span of 63 seconds &#8212; and yet had no chance at being selected the game MVP. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/why-lebron-james-could-return-to-team-usa-for-the-2020-tokyo-olympics\/\">LeBron James<\/a> scored 23 points while Durant and Stephen Curry had 21 apiece.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Anthony Davis kept scoring and scoring<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"TEAM LEBRON vs TEAM GIANNIS | 2019 NBA All-Star Game | February 17, 2019\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/OrH7JHHn_q4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/1-reason-why-anthony-davis-wont-participate-in-the-nba-slam-dunk-contest\/\">Anthony Davis<\/a> knocked Wilt Chamberlain out of the record book after a 55-year stay by scoring 52 points for the Western Conference.
