Engines and aerodynamic packages are\nregulated in such a way that Fords, Chevys, and Toyotas should be so closely\nmatched that races are determined almost exclusively on the drivers\u2019 skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That contributes to multiple race winners in each season of the <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/what-is-the-nascar-cup-series\/\">NASCAR Cup Series<\/a>, but some drivers have had a knack for taking the checkered flag much more often than the competition. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are the all-time leaders\nin victories for NASCAR\u2019s top racing series:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. (tie) Darrell Waltrip, 84\nvictories<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Darrell Waltrip&#039;s final sendoff from Sonoma Raceway | NASCAR on FOX\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/m3wpDbOoom0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A generation of race fans\nknows Darrell Waltrip as an announcer on Fox telecasts of NASCAR, a role he\nrelinquished after the 2019 season. Before that, \u201cDW\u201d had a 29-year career that\nbegan in the Winston Cup days. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Waltrip dominated with 12\nvictories in 1981 and repeated the feat in 1982 to account for two of his three\nseason titles. He didn\u2019t win at all in his final eight seasons from 1993-2000,\nbut Waltrip did have a run of 16 consecutive seasons in which he triumphed at\nleast once.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Waltrip completed 237,773\nlaps in his career, narrowly missing the distinction of performing 1 million\nleft turns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Forty-three of his victories came\ndriving the No. 11 car, helping to make that the winningest number in the\nsport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. (tie) Bobby Allison, 84 victories<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"681\" src=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Bobby-Allison.jpg?strip=all&#038;quality=89\" alt=\"Bobby Allison  Jared C. He won 10 races in both 1971 and \u201972\nand piled up 42 more finishes in the top five over those two seasons, but he\ndidn\u2019t win the overall title until 1983, his 23<sup>rd<\/sup> year on the\ncircuit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Allison won at least five\nraces in a season every year from 1977-84.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By the way, <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/the-5-highest-paid-nascar-drivers-in-2019\/\">Jimmie Johnson<\/a> is in his final season of the <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/the-wildest-1-car-crash-in-nascar-history-was-at-daytona\/\">NASCAR<\/a> Cup Series and needs one more victory to tie Allison and Darrell Waltrip for the No. 4 spot on the victories list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Jeff Gordon, 93 victories<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Jeff Gordon&#039;s top 10 moments of his Hall of Fame NASCAR career | Motorsports on NBC\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/zgUCIWm7hfs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Jeff Gordon absolutely owned NASCAR\nfrom 1995-98 when he captured 40 race wins and three season series, finishing second\nthe other time. Gordon also rolled up 58 other top-10 finishes in that stretch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gordon won six races in 2001\nen route to his fourth series championship and retired after the 2016 season with\nmore than $153 million in career earnings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Forty-four of the wins came from 1966-69, during which time he won three <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/did-ryan-newman-break-any-bones-in-the-major-daytona-crash\/\">NASCAR<\/a> season championships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 1968 season was his\nhigh-water mark with 16 triumphs. But Pearson may have had an even better year\nin 1969 with 11 victories and 42 total top-five results in 54 races.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Just as Major League Baseball is unlikely to ever see another pitcher win 30 games, it is difficult to imagine another <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/10-worst-wrecks-in-nascar-history-2\/\">NASCAR<\/a> driver matching Petty\u2019s 27 race wins in 1967 to begin a stretch of five consecutive seasons with 10 or more victories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Petty\u2019s 35-year career that\nbegan in 1958 included 15 seasons with five or more victories.
