That league\u2019s franchises dominate the list of the most followed U.S. teams on <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/the-joel-embiid-karl-anthony-towns-drama-almost-shutdown-twitter\/\">Twitter<\/a> by holding down nine of the top 15 places on the list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">NBA teams are reaching their fans on Twitter<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-twitter wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Staying healthy takes teamwork. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/oioXHFUXj6\">pic.twitter.com\/oioXHFUXj6<\/a><\/p>&mdash; NBA (@NBA) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NBA\/status\/1238599537398349835?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 13, 2020<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Any team with <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/why-al-harrington-believes-lebron-james-the-best-player-ahead-of-michael-jordan\/\">LeBron James<\/a> on its roster is going to be tracked closely by fans via any medium, whether it\u2019s TV, websites, social media, or whatever else. Having a good team, a history of success on the court, and playing in a major media market can also help to explain why the <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/how-much-are-the-los-angeles-lakers-worth\/\">Los Angeles Lakers<\/a><br> lead the list, <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They\u2019re no match for the 45.5 million users that James pulls in on his own <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/kevin-durant-ignited-a-feud-with-an-old-teammate-on-twitter\/\">Twitter<\/a> account, but the Lakers\u2019 8.75 million followers make the team No. 1 in American pro sports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nba.com\/warriors\/\">Golden State Warriors<\/a> rank second with 6.48 million followers. Though they possessed the league\u2019s worst record at 15-50 when the NBA announced it was suspending its season because of the coronavirus pandemic, the Warriors had been to the NBA finals the past five seasons, winning three titles. Golden State star <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/when-will-stephen-curry-return-to-nba-action-with-the-golden-state-warriors\/\">Stephen Curry<\/a> has 14.16 million followers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Coming in at third and fifth, respectively, on Twitter are The Miami Heat (4.74 million) and Chicago Bulls (4.14 million)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The NBA\u2019s monopoly of the top\nof the rankings is broken up only by the New England Patriots at No. 4. The six-time\nSuper Bowl champions (with three titles since 2015) have 4.60 million users tracking\ntheir account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">If social media is youth-oriented, then MLB has a problem<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-twitter wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Chi-Town swagger.<br><br>(via <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SInow?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@SINow<\/a>) <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/tYBMPBTOEK\">pic.twitter.com\/tYBMPBTOEK<\/a><\/p>&mdash; MLB (@MLB) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MLB\/status\/1237414740101660673?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 10, 2020<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The NBA\u2019s appeal on Twitter goes much deeper than just the teams at the top. The world\u2019s leading pro basketball league owns nine of the first 15 spots on the <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/nfl-browns-jermaine-whitehead-learns-a-harsh-lesson-about-twitter-rants\/\">Twitter<\/a> list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bolstered by the No. 6 Dallas\nCowboys, No. 8 Philadelphia Eagles, and No. 10 Pittsburgh Steelers, the NFL places\nfive of its teams in the first 15. In fact, pro football has more teams than\nthe NBA in the top 50 by a 19- 14 margin. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For a sport that has existed for\nso long and dominated on the sports page and at the turnstiles for decades, Major\nLeague Baseball has to be at least moderately concerned at one more indicator\nthat it lags the NBA and NFL in appeal. Only the New York Yankees (11<sup>th<\/sup>),\nLos Angeles Dodgers (17<sup>th<\/sup>), and Chicago Cubs (25<sup>th<\/sup>) \u2013 all\nfrom large markets &#8212; make the top 25.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MLB (nine teams in the top 50)\nand the NHL (five) bring up the rear among the four major North American team\nsports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A few more observations about teams on Twitter<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Christen Press &amp; Carli Lloyd lift USWNT to victory vs. England | SheBelieves Cup\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/aHx6HY6qhSs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The big four sports leagues\naccount for 47 franchises in the top 50. Two of the other three teams are\nsoccer franchises, though not from the MLS. The U.S. Women\u2019s National Team\nchecks in at 18<sup>th<\/sup> and that squad\u2019s male counterparts at 27<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Completing the list of the first 50 teams is the Duke University men\u2019s basketball team Twitter account at No. 23 with 2.24 million followers, edging out the San Francisco 49ers (2.19 million). By the way, <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/if-youre-not-following-patrick-mahomes-twitter-account-youre-missing-out\/\">Patrick Mahomes<\/a> and the Kansas City Chiefs, who defeated the 49ers in Super Bowl LIV last month, have some work to do to off the field, placing 42<sup>nd<\/sup> in the Twitter rankings at 1.53 million users. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among leagues and governing bodies, no one comes close to pro football <g class=\"gr_ gr_14 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Style replaceWithoutSep\" id=\"14\" data-gr-id=\"14\">on T<\/g>witter.
