{"id":1132775,"date":"2020-04-06T20:44:27","date_gmt":"2020-04-07T00:44:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sports7.us\/?p=1132775"},"modified":"2020-11-13T12:06:09","modified_gmt":"2020-11-13T17:06:09","slug":"nascar-driver-bubba-wallace-loses-sponsorship-over-tantrum-in-esports-race","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sports7.us\/news\/nascar-driver-bubba-wallace-loses-sponsorship-over-tantrum-in-esports-race\/","title":{"rendered":"NASCAR Driver Bubba Wallace Loses Sponsorship Over Tantrum in eSports Race"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The eSports version of auto racing created to fill the void during the coronavirus epidemic has turned real with news that <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/do-nascar-drivers-work-out\/\">NASCAR driver<\/a> Bubba Wallace has lost a sponsorship over his weekend antics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wallace\nwas fired by a sponsor after abruptly quitting in a tantrum as racing fans\nwatched the third in a series of online-gaming races Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What happened in the NASCAR iRacing race?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-twitter wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BlueEmu1?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@BlueEmu1<\/a> will sponsor <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BubbaWallace?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@BubbaWallace<\/a> in tomorrow&#39;s Pro Series Invitational, giving it two cars now in addition to <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/landoncassill?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@LandonCassill<\/a>.<br><br>\u2796 Blue Emu is also looking at sponsoring additional races with both drivers once real-life racing returns. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/cosBNQt642\">pic.twitter.com\/cosBNQt642<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Adam Stern (@A_S12) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/A_S12\/status\/1246456440367255554?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 4, 2020<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Bubba Wallace and Clint Bowyer were involved in a crash during the early laps of an iRacing series race being broadcast by Fox Sports. Boyer reacted to being moved out of line by Wallace by joking, \u201cI got Bubba-ed!\u201d I need a beer really badly.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wallace then quit,\nranting on the stream, \u201cThat's why I don't take this (crap) serious. Peace out!\u201d\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He went on Twitter\nlater to mock fans for taking iRacing seriously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The problem with his outburst is that Wallace drives one of the most famous cars in racing and was being sponsored by Blue-Emu, a pain relief product. The value of the sponsorship arrangement wasn\u2019t disclosed, but <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/the-5-highest-paid-nascar-drivers-in-2019\/\">NASCAR teams and drivers<\/a> are being hurt as much as anyone during the shutdown caused by the pandemic, so any money is appreciated. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/what-is-the-nascar-cup-series\/\">NASCAR<\/a> hasn\u2019t conducted a real race since the FanShield 500 at Phoenix Raceway on March 8. The season is tentatively slated to restart May 9 with the Blue-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 500 at Martinsville Speedway in Virginia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Blue-Emu executive vice president Ben Blessing reacted to being embarrassed by Wallace by immediately announcing that the driver was fired and would not be paid. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe aren\u2019t sponsoring Bubba anymore,\u201d Blessing told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.actionnetwork.com\/nascar\/bubba-wallace-sponsor-quit-nascar-iracing-bristol?utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_campaign=TAN\ufeff\">The Action Network<\/a>. \u201cCan you imagine if he did that in real life on a track?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bubba Wallace has a temper in real races, too<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"eNASCAR Pro Invitational iRacing Series at Bristol | NASCAR ON FOX HIGHLIGHTS\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/g75HghckIyY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Bubba Wallace has shown his\ntemper in the past at real NASCAR races. He was spun out by Alex Bowman during\na race last season after Wallace taunted him with a hand gesture on several\nlaps. Afterward, Wallace sought out Bowman and splashed water on him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wallace, 26, is in his third season driving the No. 43 Chevrolet for <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/the-5-winningest-nascar-cup-series-drivers\/\">Richard Petty Motorsports<\/a>. The number remains closely associated with Petty, who retired from racing in 1992 with 200 career victories on NASCAR\u2019s top circuit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wallace was the 2018\nrunner-up for rookie of the year for a season that began with a second-place\nshowing in the Daytona 500. TBS\nhas had the greatest success with ELeague competitions in titles such as \u201cCounter-Strike:\nGlobal Offensive\u201d and \u201cOverwatch.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NASCAR's first two\ntelevised events set eSports records. More than 1 million viewers watched last\nweek when Fox showed the race over one of its cable networks and allowed\nbroadcast affiliates to show it.
