He then spent $180 million to take control of the struggling NBA franchise. As the sixth-largest shareholder, Jeter has less than five percent equity in the National League franchise. The Marlins have been terrible since the sale of the team in 2017. In the last two years, Miami has gone 120-203 while trading away two of its best players.
