Even playing in the rain worked to the advantage of the telecast, giving the foursome even more to banter about in between shots in \u201cThe Match: Champions for Charity,\u201d a fundraiser for COVID-19 relief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Given all the positive\nfeedback, it\u2019s all but certain that someone will pitch a sequel by the end of\nthe year. And there may be more than one reboot if the pandemic continues to\nmake mincemeat of the national sports schedule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Should Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson be replaced?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Best Trash Talk From Capital One&#039;s The Match\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/uM81O_5vBUw?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>RELATED:\n<\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/tiger-woods-and-phil-mickelson-picked-the-wrong-nfl-players-for-sundays-match\/\">Tiger Woods and\nPhil Mickelson Picked the Wrong NFL Players for Sunday\u2019s Match<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The match played Sunday at Medalist Golf Club in Hobe Sound, Florida, was already a sequel. <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/tiger-woods-shares-how-he-finally-overcame-his-childhood-stutter-i-would-talk-to-my-dog\/\">Tiger Woods<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/heres-how-much-phil-mickelsons-gambling-issues-really-cost-him\/\">Phil Mickelson<\/a> played each other in a televised match in November 2018. Adding Tom Brady and Peyton Manning, rival quarterbacks for a time in the NFL, sweetened the television ratings pot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now that we\u2019ve been there and\ndone that, though, it\u2019s time to look for reboots that might work, starting with\nthe pro golfers. Woods and Mickelson are huge names, but aren\u2019t the players\nthat they once were \u2013 not that we\u2019re discounting Tiger\u2019s victory in the 2019\nMasters or his No. 6 position in the world rankings at the end of last season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The top five in the world at\nthe end of 2019 were:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/brooks-koepka-says-pga-stars-need-galleries-so-they-dont-lose-balls\/\">Brooks Koepka<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/arnold-palmers-letter-to-rory-mcilroy-confirms-his-golf-legacy-as-the-king\/\">Rory McIlroy<\/a><\/li><li>Jon Rahm<\/li><li>Justin Thomas<\/li><li>Dustin Johnson<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Well, OK. So much for that\nidea. Koepka and McIlroy lead the list of men with outstanding credentials and some\nname recognition, but no one on the above list is going to reel in viewers like\nTiger and Phil. Once the World Series is over, just about everyone\u2019s\nschedule in both sports is wide open.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Golf.com, New\nYork Mets outfielder Jeff McNeil is the cream of the golf-playing baseball crop\nwith a 0.3 handicap rating. The Flying Squirrel, who turned 28 last month, doesn\u2019t have 200\nmajor-league games under his belt yet but is a .321 hitter who swatted 23 home\nruns last season. Clippard shot a 72 from the back tees at Pebble Beach in 2015.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two most recognizable\nnames on the list of five are New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Hicks, a\nscratch golfer, and Houston Astros pitcher Zack Greinke, who isn\u2019t far behind\nHicks in that respect. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The website said Hicks grew\nup playing the same course where Tiger Woods practiced and wanted to follow in\nhis footsteps.
