The traditional July <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/media\/2020\/05\/26\/espys-2020-russell-wilson-sue-bird-megan-rapinoe-host\/5259889002\/\">date has been moved up<\/a> to June 21, at which point at least some of the country will likely still be operating under restrictions due to the pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With that in mind, the show\u2019s\nproducers will follow the lead of the last month\u2019s NFL draft and ditch the\nusual theater setting to work from multiple locations linked together by video\ntechnology. The focus will also take on a different look, shifting from\nhonoring top athletes and moments to recognizing heroism and humanitarian efforts\nduring the pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Soccer player Megan Rapinoe and basketball player Sue Bird will preside from their home, and fellow Seattle-area resident <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/what-is-russell-wilsons-salary-and-net-worth\/\">Russell Wilson<\/a> will be the third co-host from the home he shares wife his singer wife, Ciara.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wilson, the Seattle Seahawks\u2019\nstar quarterback, and Ciara are quite the celebrity couple, bridging the sports\nand entertainment worlds. She turned\ndown offers from many of the other NCAA powers to sign with UConn, only to\nsuffer a season-ending knee injury early in her freshman season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 5-foot-9 point guard came\nback strong as a sophomore and was a key component of the Huskies\u2019 107-4 run with\ntwo NCAA titles over her final three seasons. She won multiple honors along the\nway, including the Naismith Award as the nation\u2019s top player in the 2001-02\nseason.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although she missed the entire 2013 and 2019 seasons with a knee\ninjury, her pro career has been impressive for its quality and duration. Selected\nfirst overall by the Seattle Storm in 2002, she has appeared in more than 500\nregular-season games, averaging 12.1 points and 5.6 assists a game. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bird\nhas also been a fixture with U.S&gt; Basketball. The 5-foot-6 forward and midfielder played for the\nOlympic gold medalists in London (2012), finishing with three goals and four\nassists. She also led the United States Women\u2019s National Team to World Cup\ntriumphs in 2015 and 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rapinoe, a co-captain on the USWNT, was named the FIFA Women\u2019s\nPlayer of the Year in 2019 after being selected the outstanding player of the\n2019 World Cup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before\nmoving into the senior international ranks, Rapinoe played at the University of\nPortland, where she helped the Pilots to an NCAA Division I championship as a\nfreshman in 2005.
