As people around the globe tuned in to see Donald Trump and Joe Biden debate, Stan Van Gundy took to Twitter to share his takes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stan Van Gundy's long and winding basketball career <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Stan Van Gundy plays &#039;What were you thinking?&#039; | The Jump\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/jPUOm13_7oA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/reason-stan-van-gundy-regrets-leaving-espn-for-turner-sports\/\">The 1 Reason Stan Van Gundy Regrets Leaving ESPN for Turner Sports<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In modern sports, few players spent their entire careers with one organization. <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/stan-van-gundy-wont-coach-the-new-york-knicks-because-theyre-extremely-dysfunctional\/\">Stan Van Gundy<\/a> may have been a coach, but he still experienced his fair share of moves over the years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After playing D-III basketball for his father at SUNY-Brockport, Stan began his coaching career. He started out as an assistant coach on the University of Vermont staff; he then took over as Castleton University's head coach before heading to Canisius and Fordham, spending a season at each school as an assistant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After a bit more time in the NCAA ranks\u2014he also coached at UMass Lowell and Wisconsin\u2014Van Gundy got his first taste of NBA action in 1995. He joined the Miami Heat organization and spent eight seasons as an assistant; Stan eventually took over as head coach but resigned 21 games into his third year on the job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> In 2007, Van Gundy took charge of the Orlando Magic. He spent almost five full seasons with the club but ultimately got the ax after <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/dwight-howard-finally-tells-magic-fans-that-hes-sorry-for-breaking-their-hearts\/\">clashing with Dwight Howard.<\/a> He most recently served as <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/nba-what-will-stan-van-gundy-bring-to-the-detroit-pistons\/\">the Detroit Piston's head coach <\/a>and president of basketball operations; while Van Gundy helped stabilize the floundering franchise, he simply couldn't win enough games to keep his job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Taking aim at Donald Trump on Twitter<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-twitter wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\nhttps:\/\/twitter.com\/realStanVG\/status\/1311118933777317888\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>With the NBA Finals on the horizon, you might think that Stan Van Gundy would be pouring over his notes and studying film on the Lakers and Heat. On Tuesday night, however, the coach apparently had different plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Based on his <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realstanvg?lang=en\">Twitter<\/a> feed, Van Gundy spent the evening watching the first United States presidential debate; the coach also took to Twitter to share his reactions; he resumed his social media posts early on Wednesday morning. Virtually all of them were critical of Donald Trump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;People who want to say we are the greatest country on earth how do you explain this ridiculous debate,&#8221;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realStanVG\/status\/1311118933777317888\"> Van Gundy wondered<\/a> during the broadcast. &#8220;Junior high kids in an argument behave better and more professionally than Trump. He is a child!&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If that tweet didn't make the former coach's views apparent, he shared his final sentiments after the dust had settled for the night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Two final thoughts of the night,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realStanVG\/status\/1311149423808913409\">he concluded.<\/a> &#8220;First, if you are a Democrat and weren\u2019t already committed to doing everything possible with your money and your time over the next 5 weeks to defeat Donald Trump, you should be now. Second, no more debates. He isn't the only NBA coach to take aim at the Oval Office, though.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the past, Gregg Popovich has openly criticized <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/gregg-popovich-moved-on-from-donald-trump-to-put-2-more-republican-politicians-on-blast\/\">both Trump and other Republican politicians;<\/a> Steve Kerr, who played for Popovich in San Antonio and now coaches the Golden State Warriors, has also refused to stick to sports. <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/clippers-coach-doc-rivers-fires-shot-at-donald-trump-over-voter-suppression\/\">While Doc Rivers<\/a> is no longer the Clippers head coach, he used some of his media availability inside the NBA bubble to discuss voter suppression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Come Wednesday night, basketball fans everywhere will turn their focus to the NBA Finals.
