Whether he was playing basketball, hitting the golf course, or playing board games, he needed to come out on top. His methods, however, could sometimes be a bit unconventional. Just ask Charles Barkley about that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the 1993 NBA Finals, <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/tag\/Michael-Jordan\/\">Michael Jordan<\/a> and his Chicago Bulls squared off against Charles Barkley's Phoenix Suns. His Airness also hated to lose and, when push came to shove, won plenty of silverware during his career. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As you've surely heard, <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/was-michael-jordan-really-cut-from-his-high-school-basketball-team\/\">Jordan encountered an early setback<\/a> when he failed to make his high school's varsity basketball team at the first attempt. That experience, however, only lit a greater fire under the young man.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MJ dominated the JV competition and, the following year, made the varsity squad. By graduating from high school, he had become a McDonald's All-American. He then headed to the University of North Carolina and promptly claimed a national championship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While His Airness initially had some issues getting past the <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/how-michael-jordan-finally-broke-pistons-jordan-rules\/\">Pistons and their Jordan Rules, <\/a>he eventually got back to winning ways. During his time in the NBA, <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/ranking-the-6-nba-titles-of-michael-jordan-and-the-chicago-bulls\/\">he won six titles,<\/a> five MVP awards, and virtually every honor imaginable. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MJ's winning ways weren't limited to the court, though. Whether he was <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/michael-jordan-talked-trash-to-everyone-even-bill-clinton\/\">hitting the golf course<\/a> or playing board games, Jordan always managed to come out on top. In 1993, however, he might have taken a different approach. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the 1993 NBA Finals, Jordan's Chicago Bulls locked horns with Charles Barkley and his Phoenix Suns. After the third game of the series, MJ apparently decided to schmooze with the opposition's star player.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/chicagobulls\/comments\/2e368i\/compilation_of_michael_jordan_stories_xpost_rnba\/cjw4whu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Reddit<\/a> post claiming to have spoken with former Bulls assistant coach Johnny Bach, Jordan and Barkley hit the golf course and played more than two rounds together. MJ also gifted Sir Charles a $20,000 diamond earring. When Bach asked why he did it, Jordan supposedly said, &#8220;He won\u2019t get in my way the rest of the series. What\u2019s $20,000 to me? Charles thinks we\u2019re great friends. I hate that fat f-k.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Again, there's no verification that encounter actually happened. The story seems to have started with that Reddit post, then spread around the Internet, appearing in places like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vulture.com\/2020\/05\/michael-jordan-stories-rumors-cheating-trash-talk.html#:~:text=He%20got%20Charles%20Barkley%20to,the%201993%20Bulls%2DSuns%20finals.&amp;text=It%20might%20be%20hearsay%2C%20but,the%20rest%20of%20the%20series.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Vulture<\/a>. With that being said, though, it doesn't seem outside the realm of possibility for Michael Jordan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-20-000-gift-or-not-michael-jordan-got-the-better-of-charles-barkley\">$20,000 gift or not, Michael Jordan got the better of Charles Barkley<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Jordan vs. Barkley in the 1993 Finals | The RewatchaBulls | The Bill Simmons Podcast\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ErZZzeWY-6w?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>When <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/charles-barkley-says-his-longtime-feud-with-michael-jordan-wont-end-anytime-soon\/\">Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley<\/a> theoretically hit the golf course together, the Phoenix Suns had just won Game 3 to close the gap in the series to 2-1. Regardless of what did or did not happen between the two men, though, His Airness ultimately came out on top.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Game 4, Jordan dropped 55 points, going 21 of 36 from the floor. That was enough to help the Bulls secure a 111-105 win. He scored 41 in a Game 5 loss, then potted 33 points in a championship-clinching Game 6. That win completed the three-peat, <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/how-many-three-peats-have-there-been-in-the-nba\/\">giving His Airness his third ring<\/a>. After a brief retirement, he'd come back win three more titles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Did Michael Jordan really soften Charles Barkley up by taking him golfing and gifting him a $20,000 diamond earring? At this point, no one outside of those two men really knows.
