He had an incredible career with the <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/tag\/new-york-giants\/\">New York Giants<\/a> and led the G-Men to a ton of success throughout his time in New York. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, while current New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/bill-belichicks-first-football-job-only-paid-him-25-a-week-as-an-apprentice\/\">was the Giants' defensive coordinator<\/a> when they <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/lawrence-taylor-was-even-ferocious-in-the-film-room-just-ask-bill-belichick\/\">had all their success with Taylor<\/a>, their relationship did not start too well. In fact, Taylor was pissed when former Giants head coach Bill Parcells named Belichick as the defensive coordinator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-lawrence-taylor-is-a-new-york-giants-legend\">Lawrence Taylor is a New York Giants legend<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Why Lawrence Taylor Often Showed Up at Phil Simms&#039; House Early in the Morning | The Dan Patrick Show\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/fI6rS3pipXU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Lawrence Taylor was the No. 2 overall pick in the 1981 <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/nfl-draft-how-many-no-1-overall-picks-have-won-a-super-bowl\/\">NFL Draft<\/a> out of North Carolina, and he had about as great of a start to his NFL career as anyone can. Taylor earned six consecutive First-Team All-Pro selections from 1981-86 and 10 straight <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/what-is-the-difference-between-being-an-nfl-all-pro-and-pro-bowler\/\">Pro Bowl selections<\/a>. He also won the 1981 Defensive Rookie of the Year award on his way to becoming the best defensive player in the entire game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Taylor was incredible at getting to the quarterback, as he even led the NFL with 20.5 sacks in 1986. It was during that 1986 season that Taylor also even won the NFL MVP award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Overall, Taylor earned 10 Pro Bowls and eight First-Team All-Pro selections, an MVP award, and three Defensive Player of the Year awards. However, Taylor was not too happy with the decision made by former Giants head coach Bill Parcells. Belichick had worked with the Giants' special teams in each of the previous six seasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I cursed Parcells out when he hired Belichick as the defensive coordinator,&#8221; Taylor said on the Jan. 27, 2021, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radio.com\/podcasts\/the-boardroom-out-of-office-40847\/episode-26-lawrence-taylor-on-his-relationship-with-bill-parcells-initial-skepticism-about-bill-belichicks-coaching-talents-and-his-pick-for-super-bowl-lv-355569676\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">episode<\/a> of <em>Boardroom: Out Of Office<\/em>, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbssports.com\/nfl\/news\/lawrence-taylor-really-wasnt-happy-when-bill-parcells-named-bill-belichick-defensive-coordinator-of-giants\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CBS Sports<\/a>. &#8220;I come into the league, and I meet Bill Belichick. He's an assistant special teams coach... now what the hell, that's like a towel boy. What the hell is that? Assistant special teams coach.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He continued: &#8220;And then the next year he's special teams coach, and then, the third year, Parcells becomes the head coach, and he makes ... Belichick the defensive coordinator. And I went apes&#8212;. I went up to him, and I said, &#8216;Ain't no way! I mean, even Cover 2 ... all those belong to him?&#8221; Taylor said, according to CBS Sports. &#8220;And he got a little respect from me that day, and I tell you what, he has turned out to be one of the best coaches in history.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Taylor went on to <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/new-york-giants-legend-lawrence-taylor-list-of-career-accomplishments-includes-main-eventing-wwe-wrestlemania\/\">win his NFL MVP award<\/a> with Belichick as his defensive coordinator, and they helped lead the Giants to two Super Bowl titles.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>New York's first <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/why-does-the-nfl-refuse-to-move-the-super-bowl-to-saturday\/\">Super Bowl<\/a> title with Parcells, Taylor, and Belichick was in 1986. The Giants' defense was second in the NFL in points allowed that year, as it only allowed 14.8 per game. The other came in 1990, and the defense was No. 1 in the NFL in points allowed, only allowing 13.2 per game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Obviously, Belichick earned Taylor's respect, and it appears the two have a great relationship now. <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/tom-brady-revealed-the-only-4-things-that-make-bill-belichick-laugh\/\">Tom Brady once even said<\/a> Taylor is one of four things that make Belichick laugh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before that success, though, Lawrence Taylor was extremely skeptical of Bill Belichick and his abilities to run an NFL defense.
