In 2019, however, he achieved an impressive performance without breaking 10 miles per hour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While NASCAR drivers may not seem like conventional athletes, Johnson smashes through any potential stereotypes. He's a runner and triathlete and, in 2019, put himself to the test by entering the Boston Marathon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As documented on <a aria-label=\"undefined (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nascar.com\/news-media\/2019\/04\/15\/jimmie-johnson-readies-for-different-kind-of-race-the-boston-marathon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NASCAR.com,<\/a> Johnson reached the finish line in an unofficial time of 3 hours, 9 minutes, and 7 seconds. That put him in 4,155th place overall, 3,746th among males, and 641st in his age bracket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To make things even more impressive, Johnson competed in a NASCAR race two days before the marathon. By that standard, Jimmie Johnson is one of the best drivers to ever climb behind the wheel of a stock car.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After cutting his teeth in off-road racing &#8212; more on that later &#8212; Johnson joined the American Speed Association in 1997. He made his NASCAR debut the following year, participating in the Busch Series. In 2002, he stepped up to the <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/what-is-the-nascar-cup-series\/\">Cup Series<\/a>, signing on with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/hendrick-motorsports-has-made-it-all-the-way-back-after-a-tragic-plane-crash\/\">Hendrick Motorsports<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Johnson took to NASCAR quite naturally, finishing second in the overall points standings in both 2003 and 2004. After the <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/jimmie-johnson-owes-legendary-nascar-success-to-mickey-mouse-plates-milk-cookies\/\">legendary &#8220;milk and cookies meeting<\/a>,&#8221; though, he took things to the next level. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the end of the 2006 Cup Series campaign, Johnson claimed his first Cup Series crown. That victory was the first of five-straight titles. Over the course of his life, the driver has taken control of quite a variety of vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a boy, Johnson raced motorcycles. His winning ways actually started there, thanks to a modified bike that allowed him to <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/jimmie-johnson-won-his-first-championship-by-racing-through-a-brutal-broken-leg-on-a-modified-motorcycle\/\">race with a broken leg<\/a>. He then moved into off-road racing where, <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/jimmie-johnson-owes-his-nascar-success-to-a-potentially-fatal-crash-i-needed-that-wake-up-call\/\">despite some bumps in the road<\/a>, he won plenty of silverware.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jimmie Johnson, however, wasn't done there. During the 2008 season, he participated in a single Truck Series race.
