But Oliynykova\u2018s approach is different. She auctioned off exclusive advertising space on part of her right arm for a little more than $5,000 by tapping the cryptocurrencies market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportico.com\/business\/commerce\/2021\/croatian-tennis-player-sells-arm-nft-experiment-1234626090\/\">Sportico.com<\/a>, the winning bid on the popular NFT platform OpenSea was three Ether, which amounted to $5,415 at the time. As is the case with cryptocurrencies, that amount can fluctuate from day to day and hour to hour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What does the buyer get in return?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The winning bidder for 18 square inches (3-by-6) on Oliynykova\u2019s right arm gets to ink nearly any message they choose into that space. In fact, he or she shouldn\u2019t act just yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oliynykova, 20, is 658<sup>th<\/sup> in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wtatennis.com\/players\/327182\/oleksandra-oliynykova\">WTA world rankings<\/a> as of April 4, 2021. She has never been higher than 620<sup>th<\/sup>, and Oliynykova has a modest $26,104 in career earnings. Although she won an ITF event in 2018, Oliynykova has never defeated a player ranked in the top 300 since turning pro four years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Logic says, then, that this is a long-term play. If Oliynykova works her way up the rankings and starts going three or four rounds deep in the singles draw of grand slam events like <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/why-canceling-wimbledon-is-such-a-historic-move\/\">Wimbledon<\/a> and the U.S. Open then the potential TV exposure makes the NFT more valuable. The winning bidder can broker the space to an apparel company or equipment manufacturer willing to spend a lot more than $5,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI will bring your art object or message to every tennis court I play,\u201d Oliynykova wrote, per Sportico. \u201cAs I am 20 years old only and my sports career is on the rise, I believe it\u2019s (going to) be the biggest tennis locations in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She went on to suggest the value of the investment could grow 100-fold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Oleksandra Oliynykova knows she is an NFT pioneer<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"NBA Top Shot maker on the future of NFTs and the business opportunity\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/xwqOz1gcXWA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/roger-federer-tennis-grand-slam-record\/\">What Is Roger Federer\u2019s Record in Grand Slam Singles Finals?<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oleksandra Oliynykova already has a few tattoos, so adding ink to her right arm doesn\u2019t strike her as a big deal. However, she does like being a pioneer in the world of NFTs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is the first NFT of its kind ever created (and) sold,\u201d Oliynykova said, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/croatian-tennis-pro-sells-ad-140015116.html\">Yahoo.com<\/a>. \u201cIt is actually a part of sports history, not as a tattoo, but as a successful attempt of an individual athlete to directly interact with their fan base. In several years, independent athletes will extensively use NFTs (and) career tokens, but I will always be the first who did it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a bonus, she sees it as a way of connecting directly with fans.
