The Connecticut coach told a referee, \u201cC\u2019mon, she\u2019s 300 pounds,\u201d while arguing a call during the Sun\u2019s 72-65 victory over the Aces on Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Miller later apologized for an \u201coffensive comment\u201d aimed at Cambage. However, the WNBA still fined the fifth-year coach $10,000 and suspended him for one game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI made an inappropriate and offensive comment in reference to Liz Cambage\u2019s height and weight,\u201d Miller said in a statement, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/wnba\/story\/_\/id\/31503796\/connecticut-sun-coach-apologizes-offensive-comment-las-vegas-aces-star-liz-cambage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ESPN<\/a>. \u201cI regret what I said in the heat of the moment and want to sincerely apologize to Liz and the entire Aces organization. The Tulsa Shock made the 6-foot-8 center the No. 2 pick of the 2011 WNBA draft, and she played two seasons there before deciding to play exclusively in China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cambage returned to the United States in 2018 with the Dallas Wings, who swapped her to Las Vegas in May 2019 for guard Moriah Jefferson, forward Isabelle Harrison, and two draft picks. She averaged 15.9 points and 8.2 rebounds that season as a force at center for the Aces but sat out the pandemic-shortened 2020 season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Miller's comments understandably ticked her off during Sunday\u2019s loss, which dropped Las Vegas to 2-2 this season, and she clapped back at the Connecticut coach on social media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m weighing 235 pounds and I\u2019m very proud of being a big b***h, big body, big benz, baby,\u201d Cambage said. \u201cSo don\u2019t ever try to disrespect me or another woman in the league.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the same video, she referred to Miller as \u201cthat little man\u201d and told him to deal with insecurities suggested by his insulting language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPick up the phone, call the (psychiatrist), because you\u2019re projecting some bulls**t right now,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/05\/24\/liz-cambage-rips-sun-coach-curt-miller-for-300-pounds-comment\/\">she said<\/a>. \u201cAnd next time you try to disrespect me, remember, I\u2019m 235. It might seem like 300 pounds to your little a**. I\u2019m 235, baby.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-cambage-detoured-into-some-questionable-language-of-her-own\"><strong>Cambage detoured into some questionable language of her own<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Basketballer Liz Cambage talks about coping with mental health issues | 7.30\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/GYPRg13uBoc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Cambage heard Miller\u2019s comment about her during the game but opted not to fire back at him at that time, perhaps saving herself and her team a technical foul. She took time after the game to reflect and then pieced together a two-minute video response that she posted to more than half a million followers around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In retrospect, maybe she should have thought her comments through a bit longer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI will never let a man disrespect me, ever, ever, ever, especially a little white one,\u201d Cambage said at one point, as transcribed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-9617711\/WNBA-star-Liz-Cambage-branded-racist-Twitter-calling-coach-little-white-man.html\">The Daily Mail<\/a>. \u201cDon't ever try to disrespect me or another woman in the league.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Miller had no business mentioning Cambage\u2019s weight, even in the heat of a close game. On the other hand, the player weight-shamed by the coach both height-shamed him and introduced race as an element of her response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the country a year out from the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis, race remains an incredibly sensitive topic and one that stirs up emotion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After rightfully disciplining the coach for his comments, the WNBA needs to consider some degree of action against the player.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Like <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Sports7dotcom\/\"><em>Sports7<\/em><\/a><em> on Facebook.
