In fact, they haven't reached the Eastern Conference Finals since all the way back in 1979. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Davis Bertans got an inside look at the Wizards' dysfunction over the past three seasons, and after being <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/what-does-kristaps-porzingis-trade-mean-for-luka-doncic-future-of-dallas-mavericks\/\">traded to the Dallas Mavericks<\/a> on Thursday's deadline, he exposed his old franchise on his way out the door.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-wizards-trade-davis-bertans-and-spencer-dinwiddie-for-kristaps-porzingis\">Wizards trade Davis Bertans and Spencer Dinwiddie for Kristaps Porzingis<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The Dallas Mavericks are sending Kristaps Porzingis to the Washington Wizards in exchange for Spencer Dinwiddie and Davis Bertans, sources confirm to <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ShamsCharania?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@ShamsCharania<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/V5u6A95udF\">pic.twitter.com\/V5u6A95udF<\/a><\/p>&mdash; The Athletic (@TheAthletic) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TheAthletic\/status\/1491860356221882370?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 10, 2022<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The NBA trade deadline was dominated by the Philadelphia 76ers and the Brooklyn Nets, as the two teams agreed to <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/james-harden-ben-simmons-trade-russell-westbrook-debacle-could-mean-official-end-of-nbas-big-three-era\/\">swap Ben Simmons and James Harden<\/a> in the final hours. But the Wizards and Mavericks also made an under-the-radar trade that sent Kristaps Porzingis to Washington for Bertans and Spencer Dinwiddie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Wizards get a discount on an All-Star-caliber player who can become a go-to scorer for years to come, while the Mavericks add shooting and playmaking to their already potent offense led by Luka Doncic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A few days after the trade was finalized, Bertans exposed the truth about playing in Washington.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-bertans-exposes-the-dysfunctional-wizards\">Bertans exposes the dysfunctional Wizards<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Introduction Press Conference: Coach Jason Kidd, Spencer Dinwiddle, &amp; Davis Bertans\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/1U4zaxx3uFA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Wizards started off the season 5-1, but they've since plummeted to 11th place in the Eastern Conference standings more than halfway through the season. Watching this team, you can just tell there's something a bit off on a night-to-night basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now we know what.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his introductory press conference with the Mavericks, Bertans explains what's gone wrong in Washington.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;It's tough to have team chemistry when every single day, the team is basically fighting with each other about &#8216;I want to get more minutes' and &#8216;I want a bigger role,'&#8221; Bertans said. &#8220;That was probably the biggest part of struggles for most guys during the season. That kinda early on that doesn't show up because everybody's trying to figure out what's going on. Once it starts going downhill, it's really hard to turn around and start going up again.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For an NBA team to be successful, its players need to be unselfish and know their specific roles. His 31.9% 3-point percentage is the worst of his six-year career, but there's optimism he can improve his shooting in a new environment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;My type of game is like, I really rely on my teammates setting me up, so I'm not a guy who takes the ball, creates something for myself, and then shoots.
