The native of Georgia spent 16 years in the NBA and got two rings while setting the picks to spring Steph. And he\u2019s not sure the rest of the league has the right idea when it comes to keeping up with the Warriors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pachulia retired in 2019 and works as a consultant for the Golden State front office. The 38-year-old said he spotted some things during the NBA All-Star Game that made him realize two things. One is that Curry changed the NBA. The second? No one else is Steph.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-stephen-curry-is-a-game-changer-at-a-league-wide-level\">Stephen Curry is a game-changer at a league-wide level<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Stephen Curry Changed the Game\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2TE7wUZKa2M?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Zaza Pachulia appeared on 95.7 The Game\u2019s <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.audacy.com\/957thegame\/podcasts\/the-morning-roast-20365\/zaza-pachulia-joins-the-roast-1264594033\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Morning Roast<\/a><\/em> to talk about the Warriors. And one can\u2019t discuss Golden State without the topic quickly changing to Stephen Curry and <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/stephen-curry-fired-critics-claim-ruined-basketball-shooting\/\">his impact on the game<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe changed the game; he really did,\u201d Pachulia said. \u201cEven seeing the guys during the warmups and seeing the guys shooting from halfcourt during warmups, that\u2019s because of Steph. There were so many players trying to shoot threes like Steph behind the three-point line.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was a style that was foreign to the 6-foot-11 Georgian. In 16 seasons, Pachulia attempted 31 threes. Of that total, 18 were heaves in late-clock situations. He transitioned from the grind-it-out NBA of the early 21st century to the pace-and-space era that\u2019s dominated much of the last decade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But he never caught the bug so much that he tried to change his game. More than half of his career attempts were in the restricted area, and a little more than 25% came from mid-range. Beyond the arc was foreign soil (or hardwood, as the case may be).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He knew who he was and what his limitations were. And that, Pachulia reasons, is why teams attempting to copy the Warriors are making a mistake. <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/stephen-curry-greatness-leaves-nikola-jokic-astonished-i-feel-like-my-shots-wouldnt-even-reach-from-that-far-away\/\">It starts with Stephen Curry<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEven the teams when they try and assemble their teams, they try and assemble a Warriors team,\u201d Pachulia said. \u201cThis is so wrong in my opinion because you don\u2019t have a Steph Curry, you don\u2019t have a Klay Thompson, you don\u2019t have a Draymond Green. And you\u2019re trying to put pressure on the player to play like them? It\u2019s just impossible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t see that as realistic to build a team like the Golden State Warriors because you don\u2019t have those personalities. You have to build a team according to the personalities you have, not to try and mimic and copy somebody else.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What do you mean, Zaza? Five of his makes were from beyond 30 feet. While watching the game, Zaza Pachulia saw that even the game\u2019s biggest stars couldn\u2019t resist trying to copy Chef Curry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt was so glaring; it was so obvious during the All-Star Game,\u201d Pachulia said. \u201cI\u2019m not going to say names, but there were guys \u2014 especially when Steph got hot and made a couple of threes in a row \u2014 there were other players trying to start shooting threes from halfcourt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe difference was that Steph was making them and other players were not. If just looked bad. Maybe coming from a professional standpoint, I noticed that, but it was so glaring.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Warriors entered the All-Star break at 42\u201317, the <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/james-wisemans-imminent-warriors-return-spells-trouble-for-rest-of-nba\/\">second-best record in the NBA<\/a> and 6.5 games behind the Phoenix Suns in the Western Conference. That\u2019s already more than their 39 victories from last season. Golden State is on pace for 58 wins, which would be their most since the club was 58\u201324 in 2017\u201318.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stephen Curry, now 33, is generally acknowledged as the greatest shooter the NBA has ever seen.
