The franchises have seven MLS Cups between them. In 2022, the pair should battle it out around the top of the Western Conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ahead of their first \u201922 meeting, the LA Galaxy\u2019s Twitter account put the Sounders on notice that the team is back after a disappointing \u201821 season when the squad missed the playoffs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After a hard-fought home win, the Sounders fired back, taking a shot at their West Coast rival and its <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/la-galaxy-mercurial-yet-magical-mexican-chicharito-scores-dramatic-winner\/\">star player, Chicharito<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-seattle-sounders-won-an-entertaining-match-over-the-la-galaxy\"><strong>The Seattle Sounders won an entertaining match over the LA Galaxy<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Just a spectacular play all-around. \ud83d\udcaf <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/iM67APeivH\">pic.twitter.com\/iM67APeivH<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Seattle Sounders FC (@SoundersFC) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SoundersFC\/status\/1502776404542328834?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 12, 2022<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Decked out in their Jimi Hendrix-inspired Purple Haze kits, the Seattle Sounders came into Matchday 3 with an 0-2-0 record. On the opposite side was the LA Galaxy, who upset the reigning MLS champion NYCFC in their first match and took another three points on Matchday 2 <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/mls-players-swap-jerseys-field-12-years-after-meeting-childrens-cancer-ward\/\">vs. Charlotte FC<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite being the ones to travel 1,100 miles north, the LA Galaxy started fast and dominated the ball throughout the game. Javier \u201cChicharito\u201d Hernandez put the Galaxy ahead in the sixth minute and, for the rest of the 90, LA had 64% possession. The visitors also dominated in the final third, shooting 14 times to Seattle\u2019s eight shots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, Seattle hung tough at home, was more efficient, and capitalized on their chances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although the difference in shots was large, LA had just four shots on target to Seattle three. Jordan Morris kicked one over the line while lying on his back to match Chicharito\u2019s goal in the 17th minute, and Fredy Montero drew and converted a penalty right before the half. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Former Bayern Munich star Douglas Costa evened the score again just after the half with his first MLS goal, before CB Xavier Arreaga headed home the eventual game-winner with 18 minutes to go. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/lafc-la-galaxy-teenagers-named-mls-team-of-the-week-after-dramatic-late-goals\/\">Last week\u2019s hero for LA<\/a>, 19-year-old Efrain Alvarez, nearly tied the match again late but hit the post, giving the Seattle Sounders the three points. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Seattle Sounders Twitter account took a shot at LA Galaxy star Chicharito<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"zxx\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/dRXKE4E6Or\">https:\/\/t.co\/dRXKE4E6Or<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Atomc2xbiY\">pic.twitter.com\/Atomc2xbiY<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Seattle Sounders FC (@SoundersFC) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SoundersFC\/status\/1502782222067068928?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 12, 2022<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Two days before the LA Galaxy took on the Seattle Sounders for the first time in 2022, the California-based team posted \u201c#GalaxyRevengeTour\u201d on its <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LAGalaxy\/status\/1502031062309900301\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Twitter<\/a> account. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the 2021 season, the Sounders got the better of the Galaxy twice (3-0 and 2-1), and the teams drew 1-1 once. That\u2019s how it\u2019s gone lately for the Galaxy against their neighbors in the Northwest. The last time LA beat Seattle was in September 2018. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Coming into Saturday\u2019s match, it\u2019s no surprise LA was confident and riding high with six points to Seattle\u2019s zero, but poking a franchise they haven\u2019t bested in three-plus seasons may not have been the best idea. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following the Sounders\u2019 win, the team\u2019s Twitter account couldn\u2019t help but fire back at the losing team. Co-Owner Matthew McConaughey\u2019s club outscored FC Cincinnati and Inter Miami 10-1 in its first two matches but face a tough test Saturday night vs. the Portland Timbers.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As for the LA Galaxy, they\u2019ll take on Orlando City SC, at home. The North Florida team has four points in the first two weeks of the season.
