The Golden State Warriors got the last laugh. There's nothing like winning a championship in front of an opposing crowd. It's extra special when that crowd hasn't treated you well.

The Los Angeles Lakers did it in 1985, celebrating a championship on the home court of the rival Boston Celtics, a year after the Celtics beat them. Celtics fans suffered the same fate Thursday night when the Warriors came into their building and left hoisting the Larry O'Brien NBA Championship Trophy.

It was extra special for the Warriors, who took a lot of abuse from the Boston fans this series. Some Warriors players admitted they had a little extra fun celebrating at the expense of those fans.

The Celtics hadn't lost consecutive games since March. They entered the postseason as the hottest team in the NBA. They also had the toughest playoff schedule of anyone.

The Celtics made quick work of the Brooklyn Nets with a sweep. They knocked off the defending champion Milwaukee Bucks and then outlasted the No. 1-seeded Miami Heat, winning Game 7 on the road.

Boston even stole homecourt advantage from Golden State, winning Game 1 of the 2022 NBA Finals. None of that bothered the Warriors. They won Game 2 and then reclaimed homecourt advantage with a Game 4 victory in Boston. Then they did what no team could do in three months — hand the Celtics a second straight loss. They even tacked on a third straight for good measure, winning the championship in Game 6 in Boston.

Experience was the biggest factor in the series. The Warriors have lived in the NBA Finals since 2015. They've made six appearances in the championship round in the last eight seasons. The Celtics hadn't been there since 2010, and it showed.

Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum struggled under the bright lights. Tatum set a record for turnovers in a postseason with 100. While the Warriors never panicked in the series, the Celtics played like they did back in November or December.
