He\u2019s not going to have to go through the week at Loudon answering repeated questions about his tenuous playoff position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unfortunately, the <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/tag\/nascar\">NASCAR<\/a> Cup Series veteran is now in for a barrage of questions about his future at <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/what-does-kurt-busch-jordan-jumpman-wrap-at-kansas-mean-for-bubba-wallace-at-23xi-racing\/\">23XI Racing<\/a>. Fortunately, he has time to figure out how to make it work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The president of 23XI Racing took part in Tuesday\u2019s surprise revelation that <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/richard-childress-racing-tyler-reddick-departing-23xi-racing\/\">Tyler Reddick will leave Richard Childress Racing<\/a> after the 2023 season to drive for the team co-owned by Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin. Reddick, a Chevy guy his entire NASCAR career and a first-time Cup Series winner two weeks ago at Road America, will be arriving for the fourth season of 23XI\u2019s existence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The organization launched last season with Bubba Wallace in the No. 23 Toyota. Kurt Busch joined 23XI this season in the No. 45 Camry. The team\u2019s announcement did not specify how Reddick will fit into the equation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then again, they have quite a bit of time to decide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Tyler Reddick\u2019s stunning surprise begs for an explanation from Kurt Busch<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Welcome to the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/23XIRacing?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@23XIRacing<\/a> family, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TylerReddick?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@TylerReddick<\/a>! \ud83e\udd1d <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/wGDtpNv4vl\">https:\/\/t.co\/wGDtpNv4vl<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Kurt Busch (@KurtBusch) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KurtBusch\/status\/1546983213842587649?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 12, 2022<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Not that Kurt Busch or <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/tag\/bubba-wallace\/\">Bubba Wallace<\/a> would be interested in the idea anyway, but 23XI Racing isn\u2019t bringing Tyler Reddick onboard in 2024 to share a ride. That seemingly leaves the team with two options: add a third car or lose a driver.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If it turns out to be the latter, then Busch is the obvious candidate. He turns 44 in August and has won 34 races and a NASCAR Cup Series championship. He reportedly is signed through the end of next season, one in which he will make his 800<sup>th<\/sup> Cup Series start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While a team doesn\u2019t easily replace experience and qualifications like that, neither does it easily replace the sponsorship support that Wallace currently commands. Thus, Reddick isn\u2019t going to be stepping into the \u201823\u2019 if 23XI remains a two-car operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That means Busch is going to be hounded with questions about his plans until he discloses what\u2019s in his future. While his brother, Kyle Busch, has been playing the media quite effectively about his own future at Joe Gibbs Racing, that doesn\u2019t seem to be a cat-and-mouse game that suits Kurt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, the sooner he sheds light on his future, the sooner the incessant questioning will end. And that would go a long way toward figuring out whether 23XI intends to go with two cars or three in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Denny Hamlin gave an incomplete answer about Kurt Busch\u2019s future<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Always preparing for the future. In fact, Hamlin went so far as to say that Busch gets to make the call on when he\u2019s done driving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur initial conversation with Kurt when we signed him is that this is your long-term future, no matter what,\u201d Hamlin explained. \u201cYou can drive as long as you\u2019d like. And then on top of that, we\u2019d like to keep you on beyond that because we think you\u2019re a very good leader that can help build this team.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But nowhere in there does it specify whether Busch has conveyed his timeline to the team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The hunch here is that Busch will retire after next season, which doesn\u2019t preclude 23XI from fielding a third car. Of course, there\u2019s still the matter of landing a third charter and signing another driver.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Reddick story dominated the news cycle Tuesday and will remain a hot topic through Sunday\u2019s race at Loudon.
