His team viewed him as a true WR1 and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/2022-nfl-free-agency-5-best-destinations-juju-smith-schuster\/\">let JuJu Smith-Schuster go<\/a>\u00a0because of that.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/tag\/fantasy-football\/\">Fantasy football<\/a>\u00a0managers had high Diontae Johnson fantasy hopes, too. He was a top 20 WR in most fantasy drafts, picked in the first four rounds. However, despite playing in every Steelers game so far, Johnson hasn't scored a touchdown yet. And in Week 14, that fact allowed the Steelers wideout to break a little-known NFL record that has stood for over 25 years, and it has nothing to do with Diontae Johnson drops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Steelers No. 1 WR has made history in 2022 with no touchdowns<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Diontae Johnson is on pace to have the least efficient touchdown season in the history of professional football.<br><br>As of Week 16, he is the first player to *ever* record over 109 targets and not find the endzone.<br><br>He is at 123 and counting with 0 TDs<\/p>&mdash; Davis Mattek (@DavisMattek) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DavisMattek\/status\/1605245774987771904?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 20, 2022<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Catching 5 of 11 targets in the Pittsburgh Steelers Week 13 win over\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/cordarrelle-patterson-fantasy-update-falcons-rb-doesnt-give-explative-about-your-fantasy-team\/\">the Atlanta Falcons<\/a>\u00a0gave Diontae Johnson 105 targets on the season. The next week, during the Steelers' loss to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/steve-young-angrily-declares-lamar-jackson-being-held-back-ravens-offensive-scheme\/\">the Baltimore Ravens<\/a>, Johnson caught six of his eight targets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cresting the 109-target mark for the season officially broke a record that no NFL player would want.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1996, Chicago Bears WR Michael Timpson had 109 targets in a season without scoring a single touchdown. After a 10-of-10-catch performance in the Steelers' Week 15 win over the Carolina Panthers, Diontae Johnson now has 123 targets without finding the end zone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Johnson joins a group of five NFL pass-catchers \u2014 including some well-known names \u2014 who have had over 100 targets in a season without a touchdown. And if you are one of the millions of fantasy football managers who drafted him, it likely hurt your record as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Diontae Johnson Fantasy stock has plummeted<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Here\u2019s how Mike Tomlin just handled my question about how awful his wide receivers were: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/x8ZqrxTfsS\">pic.twitter.com\/x8ZqrxTfsS<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Dejan Kovacevic (@Dejan_Kovacevic) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Dejan_Kovacevic\/status\/1482933602899968000?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 17, 2022<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>After starting the season with an average draft position (ADP) of WR16, per\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fantasypros.com\/nfl\/adp\/ppr-wr.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fantasy Pros<\/a>, the Diontae Johnson fantasy numbers haven't lived up to the hype.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With 77 catches for 745 and his historic touchdown drought, Johnson is WR32 in standard scoring PPR Yahoo! leagues. In non-PPR scoring, that number plummets even further to WR43.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The interesting thing is that, without the historic lack of touchdowns, the Diontae Johnson fantasy numbers would put him exactly where fantasy football managers thought he would be before the season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Johnson has averaged just over six TDs a year in his first three NFL seasons. And if the Steelers pass-catcher had six TDs this season, he would be the No. 16 WR in fantasy for 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-diontae-johnson-drops-how-many-drops-does-diontae-johnson-have\"><strong>Diontae Johnson drops: How many drops does Diontae Johnson have?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1250\" height=\"703\" src=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Diontae-Johnson.jpg?w=925&#038;strip=all&#038;quality=89\" alt=\"Diontae Johnson, Diontae Johnson drops, Diontae Johnson fantasy, Pittsburgh Steelers\" class=\"wp-image-1543262\" \/><figcaption>Diontae Johnson | John Byrum\/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>What might come as a surprise to some fans is that the historic touchdown drought in 2022 for the Steelers wide receiver has little to do with Diontae Johnson drops. The fourth-year wideout struggled with drops early in his career. In 2020, he led the NFL in drops with 13, per\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/years\/2020\/receiving_advanced.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pro Football Reference<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since then, the Diontae Johnson drops have decreased dramatically. By working on hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills drills with the Steelers coaching staff, Johnson's total drops the last two seasons haven't equaled his frustrating 2020 campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How many drops does Diontae Johnson have in 2022? He actually only has five, which is the same number as in 2021. Five drops ties Johnson with 25 other NFL players for 23rd place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While it is great that Johnson seems to have figured out his drops issue, the lack of touchdowns is concerning.
