Who knew that the owner he should have been leaning on for expert advice was Richard Childress?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The latest news out of <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/tag\/richard-childress-racing\/\">Richard Childress Racing<\/a> confirms that the sales and marketing team at Joe Gibbs Racing either wasn\u2019t up to snuff or simply didn\u2019t want to bring Busch back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-report-kyle-busch-s-no-8-chevy-in-nearly-fully-sponsored\"><strong>Report: Kyle Busch\u2019s No. 8 Chevy in nearly fully sponsored<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RCRracing?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@RCRracing<\/a> has signed Austin-based payments company <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Netspend?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Netspend<\/a> to become one of Kyle Busch&#39;s new sponsors this year with a handful of primaries.<br><br>\ud83d\udd32 The team is nearly sold out on the No. 8 Chevrolet for the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series season. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/NIxs3Q5wfC\">pic.twitter.com\/NIxs3Q5wfC<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Adam Stern (@A_S12) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/A_S12\/status\/1614985912500486146?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 16, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Netspend, which specializes in financial tools for businesses and individuals, will sponsor Kyle Busch in an unspecified number of races in the NASCAR Cup Series, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rcrracing.com\/news-media\/news\/2023\/01\/16\/netspend-to-sponsor-kyle-busch-and-rcrs-no-8-chevrolet-in-the-nascar-cup-series\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Richard Childress Racing announced<\/a> this week. One of the races in which the No. 8 Chevy will promote the new partner is the EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas near Netspend\u2019s Austin, Texas, headquarters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBoth Richard Childress Racing and Kyle Busch are living out their dreams every day, having won multiple championships and some of the most prestigious races in motorsports,\u201d Netspend president Kelley Knutson said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In reporting the deal, Adam Stern of Sports Business Journal <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/A_S12\/status\/1614985912500486146\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">tweeted<\/a> that RCR \u201cis nearly sold out on the No. 8 Chevrolet for the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series season.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Richard Childress is making JGR look bad over Kyle Busch<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1043\" src=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Joe-Gibbs.jpg?w=925&#038;strip=all&#038;quality=89\" alt=\"NASCAR owner and Hall of Famer Joe Gibbs looks on prior to the NFL game between the Carolina Panthers and the Atlanta Falcons at Bank of America Stadium on Dec. 12, 2021, in Charlotte, North Carolina. | Jared C. Tilton\/Getty Images<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The fact that Richard Childress Racing is close to selling all the primary sponsorships for Kyle Busch\u2019s car is potentially misleading since we don\u2019t know how much Mars, Inc., was paying \u2013 some reports put the figure at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Daily\/Issues\/2022\/05\/19\/Marketing-and-Sponsorship\/JGR.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">$20 million to $25 million<\/a> \u2013 for nearly exclusive sponsorship at Joe Gibbs Racing in recent seasons. RCR could settle for less per race just to sell out its inventory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mars, Inc., the maker of M&amp;Ms told JGR in 2021 that the 2022 season would be its last in NASCAR, and fans tracked the saga all year as Busch and Joe Gibbs had little to offer in the way of updates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In May, Gibbs took the unusual step of <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/joe-gibbs-racing-has-made-desperate-move-to-resolve-kyle-busch-problem\/\">reaching out to Tad Geschickter<\/a> for help making connections with sponsors with the potential to fill the Mars, Inc., hole in the lineup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Besides being a Gibbs family friend, Geschickter co-owns JTG Daugherty Racing, which runs Ricky Stenhouse Jr.\u2019s No. 47 Chevy in the NASCAR Cup Series with substantial backing by the Kroger supermarket chain. Geschickter, a former Procter &amp; Gamble executive, owns a marketing agency that has helped teams in other sports make connections JRG sought.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alas, nothing materialized, and Busch landed at RCR, which has been busy making sponsorship deals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Most of Tyler Reddick\u2019s sponsors stayed with the No. 8 Chevy<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1000\" src=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Kyle-Busch-2.jpg?w=925&#038;strip=all&#038;quality=89\" alt=\"Kyle Busch looks on during practice for the NASCAR Cup Series Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on May 28, 2022 in Concord, North Carolina. | James Gilbert\/Getty Images\" class=\"wp-image-1543333\" \/><figcaption>Kyle Busch looks on during practice for the NASCAR Cup Series Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on May 28, 2022 in Concord, North Carolina. | James Gilbert\/Getty Images<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A disclaimer is appropriate, but it looks as though Richard Childress Racing held on to most of the companies that sponsored Tyler Reddick at RCR last year. The asterisk involves the wording of contracts since some sponsors could have been locked into long-term deals or wording that will make them wait a year before they can follow Reddick to 23XI Racing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, Busch\u2019s car has backing from 2022 RGR partners Cheddar\u2019s Scratch Kitchen, 3CHI, Lenovo, BetMGM, and Alsco Uniforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If those businesses are still in the fold at RCR in 2024, then it\u2019s a big win for Kyle Busch and a bad reflection on Joe Gibbs Racing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Got a question or observation about racing?
