Mac Jones, who played for Belichick's good buddy Nick Saban at Alabama, seemed like the perfect Tom Brady replacement. However, one ugly season later, the <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/goodbye-patriots-why-mac-jones-should-demand-trade-from-bill-belichick-immediately\/\">Mac Jones trade rumors<\/a> are heating up, and some are wondering if a reunion between the QB and his old offensive coordinator, Josh McDaniels, with the <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/tag\/las-vegas-raiders\/\">Las Vegas Raiders<\/a> is possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-mac-jones-trade-rumors-to-the-raiders-are-heating-up\"><strong>Mac Jones trade rumors to the Raiders are heating up<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1250\" height=\"701\" src=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Mac-Jones-trade-rumors-1.jpg?w=925&#038;strip=all&#038;quality=89\" alt=\"Mac Jones trade rumors, Mac Jones trade, New England Patriots, Las Vegas Raiders, Bill Belichick, Josh McDaniels\" class=\"wp-image-1550836\" \/><figcaption>Mac Jones and Josh McDaniels | Chris Unger\/Getty Images<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2022 season was a disaster for Mac Jones. The second-year quarterback clashed with &#8220;offensive coordinators&#8221; Matt Patricia and Joe Judge over the putrid state of the team's offense, and rookie Bailey Zappe came in and impressed when Jones was out hurt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the season ended, Bill Belichick has refused to give Jones a ringing endorsement as the Patriots' starting QB in 2023, leading to Mac Jones trade rumors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those rumors picked up steam when NFL and Patriots insider Albert Breer from The MMQB and NBC Sports Boston joined <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/podcasts.apple.com\/us\/podcast\/tv-delay-with-sports-betting-mac-jones-and-bill\/id976180265?i=1000600038861\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Zolak and Bertrand<\/em><\/a> on 98.5 The Sports Hub in Boston on Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Breer explained that he doesn't think Belichick &#8220;appreciated the way that Mac handled some of the stuff last year&#8221; and that he didn't act like a franchise quarterback when doing so. He also explained why the Patriots would be open to trading Jones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Internally, I don't know if they see this massive gap between Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe,&#8221; Breer said. &#8220;I'm not saying they think Bailey's as good as Mac, but there was some element of Bailey doing what he was coached to do last year that I think gave Bailey the edge to some degree for a little while there.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Patriots?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Patriots<\/a> may not see a &quot;massive gap&quot; between Mac Jones and Zap Bailey, per <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AlbertBreer?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@AlbertBreer<\/a><br><br>When asked if the Patriots will be willing to listen to trade offers for Mac Jones. Breer said he thinks they would<br><br>He adds that Belichick didn&#39;t appreciate how Mac handled things last year <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Cj8MKx5ZCD\">pic.twitter.com\/Cj8MKx5ZCD<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Dov Kleiman (@NFL_DovKleiman) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NFL_DovKleiman\/status\/1626967525060665344?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 18, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>If the Mac Jones trade rumors are true, the Raiders are a realistic option. Jones had a great rookie season under now-Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels, throwing for 3,801 yards with 22 touchdowns and 13 interceptions while leading his team to a 10-7 record. Plus, the Raiders are now looking for a quarterback after releasing Derek Carr.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Raiders have several directions they could go in at QB next season. Those options range from trading for Aaron Rodgers to signing a free agent like Jimmy Garoppolo to <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/todd-mcshay-mock-draft-raiders-make-bold-move-replace-derek-carr\/\">drafting a QB<\/a> with the No. 7 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jones could be on the cheaper end of that spectrum both in terms of money and draft capital commitment.
