The driver of the <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/tag\/hendrick-motorsports\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/tag\/hendrick-motorsports\/\">Hendrick Motorsports<\/a> No. 24 Chevy has won two consecutive races and now heads to Atlanta, where he scored a victory a year ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Kyle Busch have also won this season, Byron is the big winner in the early going of the <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/tag\/nascar\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/tag\/nascar\/\">NASCAR<\/a> season as the first driver actually locked into the Cup Series playoffs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alas, it\u2019s never so simple when anointing winners and losers \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-potentially-a-split-decision-weekend-for-william-byron-and-hendrick-motorsports\"><strong>Potentially a split-decision weekend for William Byron and Hendrick Motorsports<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1500\" height=\"980\" src=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/William-Byron-3.jpg?w=925&#038;strip=all&#038;quality=89\" alt=\"William Byron celebrates after winning the NASCAR Cup Series United Rentals Work United 500 at Phoenix Raceway on March 12, 2023. | Meg Oliphant\/Getty Images\" class=\"wp-image-1553574\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">William Byron celebrates after winning the NASCAR Cup Series United Rentals Work United 500 at Phoenix Raceway on March 12, 2023. | Meg Oliphant\/Getty Images<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>William Byron won the fourth points race of the season, Kyle Larson placed fourth, Alex Bowman finished ninth, and Josh Berry landed one spot back for his first top-10 result. Hendrick Motorsports could hardly have asked for anything more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Byron or Larson led the first 118 laps and 265 overall. Combined, they\u2019ve led 504 of a possible 588 laps over the past two weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That being said, there\u2019s a cloud hanging over the organization\u2019s head for the moment. NASCAR officials noted issues with the louvers on all four cars and confiscated them after practice on Friday. If the inspection at the R&amp;D center determines HMS crews modified the louvers, as opposed to them simply not being manufactured to specifications, the <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/last-years-original-parts-scandal-is-why-hendrick-motorsports-may-have-nothing-to-fear-from-nascar\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/last-years-original-parts-scandal-is-why-hendrick-motorsports-may-have-nothing-to-fear-from-nascar\/\">penalties could add up<\/a> to something approaching historic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-more-winners-from-the-cup-series-race-in-phoenix\"><strong>More winners from the Cup Series race in Phoenix<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\ud83d\udc51  Harvick behavior. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KevinHarvick?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@KevinHarvick<\/a> | <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/phoenixraceway?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@phoenixraceway<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/jGZzkKvKYS\">pic.twitter.com\/jGZzkKvKYS<\/a><\/p>&mdash; NASCAR (@NASCAR) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NASCAR\/status\/1635264455784243202?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 13, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ryan Blaney and Tyler Reddick<\/strong> \u2013 Two drivers who\u2019ve been punching bags in the racing press and on social media of late (<a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/might-be-good-time-to-panic-over-tyler-reddick-playoff-prospects\/\">including here<\/a>) acquitted themselves well by finishing second and third, respectively. Given one more overtime restart, either might have bumped William Byron from Victory Lane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/tag\/kevin-harvick\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/tag\/kevin-harvick\/\">Kevin Harvick<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 The driver of the No. 4 Ford continued his amazing streak at Phoenix Raceway. A nine-time winner there, Harvick has placed in the top 10 in his last 20 appearances. Consequently, the No. 4 Ford returned to the track with eight laps left behind Kyle Larson, William Byron, Ryan Blaney, Ross Chastain, Kyle Busch, and Denny Hamlin, all of whom went with two new tires. Having to navigate all that traffic negated the benefit of the extra rubber, and Harvick finished fifth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Aric Almirola<\/strong> \u2013 The driver of the No. 10 Ford had to eat a two-lap penalty when a wheel came off on the track midway through the second stage. On a day when the rest of the Stewart-Haas Racing team finally looked respectable, Almirola had to settle for 33<sup>rd<\/sup> place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The new rules package<\/strong> \u2013 One race is too small a sample size, but the changes to the Next Gen car setups rolled out this weekend resulted in the fewest lead changes (10) at the track since the 2019 playoff race. It\u2019s doubtful fans will <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jeff_gluck\/status\/1635251734795935745\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">rate it<\/a> a great race.
