Barkley actually remembers the day \u2014\u00a0right before the Dream Team played Puerto Rico \u2014 when Jordan did something so incredible that Sir Charles realized His Airness was &#8220;crazy&#8221; and that he just couldn't compete with him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-charles-barkley-couldn-t-believe-what-michael-jordan-did-when-they-played-on-the-dream-team\"><strong>Charles Barkley couldn't believe what Michael Jordan did when they played on the Dream Team <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">There&#39;s no one quite like Mike \ud83d\udc10 \ud83d\ude05<br><br>Chuck remembers the time MJ played 36 holes of golf before a game. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/f5hmigv7RB\">pic.twitter.com\/f5hmigv7RB<\/a><\/p>&mdash; NBA on TNT (@NBAonTNT) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NBAonTNT\/status\/1630991111597555723?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 1, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Charles Barkley has\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/charles-barkley-shared-the-ultimate-michael-jordan-story-basketball-golf-revenge\/\">told the story before<\/a>, but on a recent episode of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/podcasts.apple.com\/us\/podcast\/the-steam-room\/id1490924360\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>The Steam Room<\/em><\/a><em>\u00a0with EJ and Chuck<\/em>, Barkley revealed to co-host Ernie Johnson the precise day in Spain\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/michael-jordan-joined-dream-team-1-reason-wasnt-win-gold\/\">with the Dream Team<\/a>\u00a0that he truly realized Michael Jordan was &#8220;crazy&#8221; as a competitor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This is when I knew Michael Jordan was crazy,&#8221; Barkley begins. &#8220;Michael's the most competitive people I've ever been around in my life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The story that follows is that on August 4, 1992, Dream Team head coach Chuck Daly, David Robinson, Jordan, and Barkley played 18 holes ahead of their Olympic matchup against Puerto Rico that night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the foursome finished, Jordan decided he wanted to play another round. Daly was shocked, but Jordan told his coach, &#8220;I'll be good.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After 36 holes, the Dream Team prepared to play Puerto Rico, and as Barkley says, &#8220;this is how crazy Michael is.&#8221; As Daly was handing out defensive assignments, Jordan simply said, &#8220;No, I got the point guard.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When Daly balked at his best player chasing the primary ball-handler around the court all night, MJ told\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/chuck-daly-had-a-wide-variety-of-emotions-at-the-1989-detroit-pistons-victory-parade-im-devastated\/\">the Detroit Pistons coach<\/a>, &#8220;I said. I got. The point guard. He said some s*** about me in the newspaper, and I'm gonna get him.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After Jordan put his foot down about guarding the opposing PG, Barkley said the Dream Team was just &#8220;looking around like, &#8216;uh oh, this little kid's in trouble.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;He played 36 holes of golf, and he's guarding this guy like it's Game 7,&#8221; Barkley recalled. &#8220;And he's talkin'. &#8216;Don't you ever say my damn name!' I'm looking at Karl Malone. I'm like, &#8216;Yo, man. There's something wrong with this dude.'&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, that's when Barkley realized Jordan was different, but who was the &#8220;kid&#8221; from Puerto Rico who Jordan dogged in the 1992 Olympics?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Puerto Rico PG Federico Lopez had a rough night against the Dream Team<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1250\" height=\"703\" src=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Michael-Jordan-Charles-Barkley-golfing.jpg?w=1024&amp;h=576&#038;strip=all&#038;quality=89\" alt=\"Charles Barkley, Michael Jordan, Dream Team, Puerto Rico\" class=\"wp-image-1555001\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley | Jeff Kravitz\/FilmMagic, Inc<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>While only Charles Barkley, Chuck Daly, David Robinson, and Michael Jordan know about the conversation at the 18th hole on that golf course in Barcelona, Barkley is right on with his memory of that Puerto Rico game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Michael Jordan took a pass from Magic Johnson off the opening tip of the Puerto Rico game and threw Karl Malone an alley-oop for a layup. After that, he picked up Puerto Rico PG Federico Lopez (No. 5) in the backcourt and hounded him for the rest of the game.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While there is no record in 2023 of what Lopez said about Jordan over 30 years ago, it doesn't really matter. All MJ fans know that Jordan could make a mountain out of a molehill in his head, whether his competition said something bad or not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What is true is that Jordan was up in Lopez's mustache for the entire game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"USA&#039;s Dream Team vs. Puerto Rico - Basketball Replays | Throwback Thursday\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/tQp8ulkbflY?start=468&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In the 1992 Olympics, Lopez averaged 24.9 minutes, 7.6 points, and 2.8 assists as his team's starting PG. With Michael Jordan trying to teach him a lesson about keeping the GOAT's name out of his mouth, Lopez played just 16 minutes and didn't have a single point or assist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He did, however, pull down one rebound.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Surely, he also learned a lesson about talking about Jordan to the press.
