The talking head screaming the loudest with the more outrageous opinion is the one who gets the most attention. While you can trace some of this as far back as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/draymond-green-loses-all-credibility-after-admitting-just-noticed-sports-talk-legend-chris-mad-dog-russo-last-couple-of-months\/\"><em>Mike and the Mad Dog<\/em><\/a>, it was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/stephen-a-smith-expresses-interest-1-final-debate-skip-bayless\/\">Stephen A Smith and Skip Bayless<\/a>\u00a0on\u00a0<em>First Take<\/em>\u00a0who took it to a whole different level. On Friday, Dan Le Batard told Smith to his face he hates what he's created, but in true Stephen A fashion, he didn't back down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-dan-le-batard-told-stephen-a-smith-i-hate-what-you-two-have-done-to-sports-television\"><strong>Dan Le Batard told Stephen A Smith, &#8216;I hate what you two have done to sports television'<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"South Beach Sessions: Stephen A. Smith | Friday | 03\/24\/23 | The Dan LeBatard Show with Stugotz\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/VMVov3I5FGw?start=2721&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Stephen A Smith and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/dan-le-batard-isnt-espn-anymore-offered-free-advice-network-can-fix-monday-night-football-problem\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dan Le Batard<\/a>\u00a0are two of the biggest, most influential, and most polarizing sports media personalities in the world in 2023 (more on that below).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And when Smith made an appearance on Le Batard's <em>South Beach Sessions<\/em> for a deep-dive conversation, the sparks flew.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le Batard told Smith, &#8220;I hate what you two have done to sports television,&#8221; referencing Smith and Skip Bayless' time on the seminal First Take show together. The talk show spawned what seems like a thousand imitators, all trying to deliver the hottest take in a two-minute segment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Never one to back down from a fight, Smith fired back, &#8220;You can say that all you want to. I would say, who the hell are you to sit up there and say, &#8216;me and him.' What about you? Where the hell were you? Living under a rock? Teaching at Miami U? You were a part of it, too. You ain't innocent!&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I'm talking about all the imitators you have berthed,&#8221; Le Batard clarified, backing down a bit. &#8220;They're all over the place thinking \u2014 without the journalism credentials \u2014 that the point of all this is to turn it into an argument on television.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stephen A Smith took &#8220;umbrage&#8221; to that as well, giving his resume and saying the same journalistic ethics that governed his sports writing applies to his talking on TV. However, Le Batard disagreed, noting, &#8220;It's not ignoring [journalistic ethics]. It's that they shrink in the face of the need for the argument for entertainment.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The argument continued for a few minutes, and in true sports talk fashion, neither side backed down, and nothing was truly resolved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Smith and Le Batard are two of the most influential voices in sports media<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1250\" height=\"703\" src=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Stephen-A-Smith-Dan-Le-Batard-1.jpg?w=1024&amp;h=576&#038;strip=all&#038;quality=89\" alt=\"Stephen A Smith, Dan Le Batard\" class=\"wp-image-1555076\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">(L-R) Stephen A Smith, Dan Le Batard | Rodin Eckenroth\/Getty Images; Jason Koerner\/Getty Images <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the last 20 years, Stephen A Smith and Dan Le Batard have been two of the most prominent voices in sports media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le Batard, a former\u00a0<em>Miami Herald<\/em>\u00a0columnist, became a regular fill-in on\u00a0<em>Pardon the Interruption\u00a0<\/em>and then got his own late afternoon ESPN talk show,\u00a0<em>Highly Questionable<\/em>. He now hosts a daily sports talk show, the\u00a0<em>Dan Le Batard Show With Stugotz<\/em>\u00a0\u2014 as well as several spin-offs \u2014 on his Meadowlark Media platform that he runs with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/former-espn-boss-wants-nfl-charge-250-watch-super-bowl\/\">former ESPN president John Skipper<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, Stephen A. Smith parlayed his writing at the New York Daily News and The Philadelphia Inquirer into multiple ESPN Radio talk shows and a gig on the ESPN morning show <em>First Take<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It's that job that changed the tenor of sports debate in the U.S., putting a premium on &#8220;the argument,&#8221; as Le Batard says, as opposed to a nuanced discussion, which Le Batard seems to think is more what he did with Tony Kornheiser and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/espns-michael-wilbon-hints-kim-mulkey-left-baylor-conservative\/\">Michael Wilbon<\/a>\u00a0on\u00a0<em>PTI<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le Batard even brought up that Smith has co-host Max Kellerman replaced (between Skip Bayless leaving and hot-take godfather Chris &#8220;Mad Dog&#8221; Russo coming in) because Kellerman was too nuanced and thoughtful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While there is no correct answer to this debate, there is truth on both sides.
