In fact, based on Robert Kraft\u2019s actions (or lack thereof), it\u2019s increasingly clear that his decision to go all-in on Bill Belichick has been costly on multiple levels.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After suffering the embarrassment of seeing their biggest star immediately lead another franchise to a Super Bowl title and continue to sustain success, the Krafts suddenly look even worse thanks to a bizarre business move by Brady that brings up a valid question: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Who\u2019s running the show in Foxborough?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-tom-brady-will-soon-call-robert-kraft-one-of-his-peers\">Tom Brady will soon call Robert Kraft one of his peers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\ud835\uddd5\ud835\uddff\ud835\uddf2\ud835\uddee\ud835\uddf8\ud835\uddf6\ud835\uddfb\ud835\uddf4: Legendry QB Tom Brady has officially agreed to buy a minority share of the Raiders.<br><br>His agreement has been submitted to the league and will now need to be approved by the NFL.<br><br>(via <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AlbertBreer?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@AlbertBreer<\/a>) <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/m9GQ6YUjfd\">pic.twitter.com\/m9GQ6YUjfd<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Dov Kleiman (@NFL_DovKleiman) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NFL_DovKleiman\/status\/1660700656653484045?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 22, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Not long ago, it seemed like a foregone conclusion that Tom Brady would retire as a member of the Patriots and serve in some sort of advisory role with the franchise. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Boy, were we wrong.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rather than returning to New England to be by Robert Kraft\u2019s side, the seven-time Super Bowl champion has his sights set on achieving a feat he couldn\u2019t accomplish during his decorated career: hoisting the Lombardi Trophy as an owner. Only nobody could have predicted that the team Brady decided to invest in would be the one that was essentially responsible for igniting the legend of TB12. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Monday, May 22, <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/tag\/las-vegas-raiders\/\">Las Vegas Raiders<\/a> owner Mark Davis told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/37709945\/tom-brady-reaches-agreement-buy-ownership-stake-raiders\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ESPN\u2019s Paul Gutierrez<\/a> that he had \u201ccome to an agreement\u201d with Brady to join the organization\u2019s ownership group, pending NFL approval.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the move goes through, the recently retired quarterback will join George Halas and Jerry Richardson in becoming the only players in league history to become owners. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to ESPN, at least 24 current NFL team owners have to approve Brady\u2019s partnership. The fact Kraft has some stake in his fate certainly stands out, especially given the history between the two franchises. After all, the Patriots wouldn\u2019t have won their first Super Bowl title without the infamous \u201cTuck Rule\u201d call in the AFC divisional round that still remains a controversial topic amongst Raiders fans today. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, while the Raiders were already a key part of Brady\u2019s legacy, his decision to join forces with Davis\u2013someone who hasn\u2019t experienced anything close to Kraft\u2019s success\u2013definitely raised some eyebrows. Then again, given the presence of Josh McDaniels, Dave Ziegler, and many former Patriots players in Las Vegas, perhaps TB12\u2019s latest business venture shouldn\u2019t have been a huge surprise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-much-worse-can-things-get-for-a-patriots-franchise-in-the-post-tb12-era\">How much worse can things get for a Patriots franchise in the post-TB12 era?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Has Bill Belichick&#039;s coaching style become a liability for the Patriots?\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/kv8RB_ohzKg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s tough to see better days ahead in New England. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In fact, things could go from bad to worse for Kraft. And as much as he may not want to admit it, he deserves a lion\u2019s share of the blame for the state of the franchise. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a savvy businessman who didn\u2019t become a billionaire by accident, Kraft knows the importance of accountability. Yet after 20 years of preaching about maintaining high standards and aiming for perfection, the Patriots have become a sloppy football team that makes mistakes on and off the field. Ultimately, that falls on Bill Belichick\u2013the man Kraft chose to stick by instead of Brady. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, Patriots fans have paid hard-earned money to watch a washed-up Cam Newton struggle to complete basic passes. Oh, they\u2019ve also spent some of their earnings to see  Matt Patricia attempt to call offensive plays for an entire season. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Along the way, fans have also witnessed Belichick swing and miss on first-round picks like Sony Michel, N\u2019Keal Harry, and Isaiah Wynn, overspend on middling free agents like Nelson Agholor and Jonnu Smith, and fail to replenish the coaching pipeline with qualified candidates. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The outlook for 2023 looks bleak, especially with <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/aaron-rodgers-injury-mekhi-becton-accusations-two-early-tests-fragile-jets-franchise\/\">Aaron Rodgers<\/a> joining a division that already included two star signal-callers in Josh Allen and Tua Tagovailoa. Even if their defense finishes as a top-10 unit, the Patriots may still finish fourth in the AFC East simply due to how talented the other three teams are.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course, Kraft <em>could<\/em> have put a stop to this at any point. But he gave Belichick the benefit of the doubt just like he gave Brady the ability to walk after the 2019 season. And by failing to bring the beloved Boston icon back in a front-office role (or even as the team\u2019s starting quarterback), Kraft gave the rest of his peers the chance to make a sales pitch to Brady. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Clearly, whatever Mark Davis said worked. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whether the GOAT can work his magic on a Raiders franchise led by two of Bill Belichick\u2019s proteges remains to be seen. But if there\u2019s anything we learned about Tom Brady as a player, it\u2019s <em>never<\/em> to doubt him. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And if he gets the required number of votes, we\u2019ll get a chance to find out if the GOAT\u2019s greatness will carry over to the ownership level, too. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As for the Patriots? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Their head coach may have lost touch with the modern game. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Their incumbent starting quarterback may be auditioning for his job this summer. <br>And their owner may be more interested in seeing his highest-paid employee break the NFL\u2019s all-time wins record for <em>his <\/em>franchise instead of doing what\u2019s necessary to make New England great again.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft has to be disappointed in seeing Tom Brady become a part-owner of the Las Vegas Raiders.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":150,"featured_media":1569325,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[3],"tags":[65795,4904,4899],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v22.3 (Yoast SEO v22.9) -
