If only the folks at <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/jimmie-johnson-isnt-answer-for-legacy-motor-club\/\">Legacy Motor Club<\/a> were so lucky. LMC is headed for the worst record in <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/tag\/nascar\/\">NASCAR<\/a> among teams with full-time drivers, and there\u2019s no draft that will bring the team engineers, mechanics, or executives to fix what\u2019s wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While not meaning to pile on, <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/tag\/denny-hamlin\/\">Denny Hamlin<\/a> warns the climb back to respectability will be a long time in the making.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-denny-hamlin-had-it-easy-by-comparison\"><strong>Denny Hamlin had it easy by comparison<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Legacy Motor Club says Noah Gragson has concussion-like symptoms after his hit at Gateway and will not be able to race this weekend.<br><br>Grant Enfinger will drive the No. 42 car at Sonoma.<\/p>&mdash; Jeff Gluck (@jeff_gluck) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jeff_gluck\/status\/1666869067280683008?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 8, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The 23XI Racing team is in its third season, built from scratch largely with Michael Jordan\u2019s money and the know-how of co-owner Denny Hamlin and president Steve Lauletta. Pulling an organization together is complicated, but 23XI possessed advantages, including eager support from a manufacturer excited to bring a second Toyota team to the NASCAR Cup Series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hiring Richard Petty Motorsports driver Bubba Wallace more or less guaranteed the sponsorship money to fund the team for the first season, and they\u2019re a two-car outfit now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Well, <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/should-toyota-regret-aligning-with-legacy-motor-club\/\">Legacy Motor Club will be a Toyota team in 2024<\/a>, but that\u2019s where the similarities end. LMC has been shuffling management and floor personnel since Maury Gallagher took operational control in December 2021 but will likely have more moves to make, all while trying to make people forget just how horrible the season has been for Erik Jones and Noah Gragson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNoah and Erik are certainly better than their performance and what they're showing right now,\u201d Hamlin said on his <a href=\"https:\/\/podcasts.apple.com\/us\/podcast\/left-with-a-bonus-point\/id1666603641?i=1000616712962\"><em>Actions Detrimental<\/em> podcast<\/a>. \u201cIt's not on them. I don't think anyone at the team would say, \u2018We got a driver problem.\u2019 That team has probably got the most upside when it comes to driver talent for results it's getting right now. And I know it's frustrating for them, but obviously there's light at the end of the tunnel.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Legacy Motor Club is going through a brutal season<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">That\u2019s it from <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RaceSonoma?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@RaceSonoma<\/a> \ud83c\udfc1<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GrantEnfinger?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@GrantEnfinger<\/a>: 26th<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Erik_Jones?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Erik_Jones<\/a>: 32nd <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/PTD2qwlJ7M\">pic.twitter.com\/PTD2qwlJ7M<\/a><\/p>&mdash; LEGACY MOTOR CLUB (@LEGACYMotorClub) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LEGACYMotorClub\/status\/1668022728648171522?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 11, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Denny Hamlin is right that Erik Jones and Noah Gragson aren\u2019t the problem at Legacy Motor Club, even as they rank 30<sup>th<\/sup> and 33<sup>rd<\/sup>, respectively, in NASCAR Cup Series points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>LMC lost Jones\u2019 primary sponsor during the offseason, and the No. 43 Chevy team just took a 60-point penalty from NASCAR. For his part, Gragson was struggling even before concussion-like symptoms forced him to miss last weekend\u2019s race at Sonoma. Most significantly, LMC made the announcement this spring that it will leave Chevrolet and field a pair of Toyotas in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWho knows what information they're getting and whether that information is even reliable anymore from whoever they have an alliance with,\u201d Denny Hamlin said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Neither Jones nor Gragson can make the playoffs without a victory. Jones won the playoff race at Darlington last season. The former Roush Fenway Racing spent years in mediocrity, much like the latter seasons for Richard Petty Motorsports. Brad Keselowski arrived last year as an owner\/driver, and he and Chris Buescher both struggled. This season, both RFK Racing drivers look poised to make the playoffs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The LMC guys will be trying to climb out of a deeper hole, but they don\u2019t need to do it all at once.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey are in a rebuilding year for sure,\u201d Denny Hamlin said, \u201cand I think the rebuild will take years for that team to be where they want to be for sure because it just takes time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI could tell you as a guy building a team from the ground up. Yeah, we're 2 1\/2 years into 23XI, (and) we're still not where we want to be. But we're seeing results coming from hires we've made, decisions we've made with competition and management.
