JGR has one such long-term prospect in place, but he hasn\u2019t been playing nicely, according to one of his peers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course, that\u2019s hardly a negative in <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/tag\/nascar\/\">NASCAR<\/a>, so William Sawalich definitely has a future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-joe-gibbs-racing-made-offseason-changes\"><strong>Joe Gibbs Racing made offseason changes<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">It&#39;s not over until it&#39;s over.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WilliamSawalich?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@WilliamSawalich<\/a> ended a dominant performance from <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jesselovejr1?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@jesselovejr1<\/a> with two laps remaining at <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BerlinRaceway?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@BerlinRaceway<\/a> for his third win on the year. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/H0O2z0tQM0\">https:\/\/t.co\/H0O2z0tQM0<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/YHWyQJwvI1\">pic.twitter.com\/YHWyQJwvI1<\/a><\/p>&mdash; ARCA Menards Series (@ARCA_Racing) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ARCA_Racing\/status\/1670262294872305664?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 18, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>By all accounts, Josh Berry will be the next man up at Stewart-Haas Racing in 2024, taking over Kevin Harvick\u2019s car when the driver of the No. 4 Ford retires in November. Berry currently drives for JR Motorsports, which means a position will be opening on the prominent <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/tag\/xfinity-series\/\">Xfinity Series<\/a> team. Owner Dale Earnhardt Jr. will pluck his replacement from another Xfinity team or the Craftsman Truck Series, and the game of musical driver seats will continue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Joe Gibbs Racing went through that last offseason as Ty Gibbs replaced Kyle Busch in the Cup Series. JGR subsequently made John Hunter Nemechek and Sammy Smith its full-time Xfinity drivers. That should carry the organization for the short term, but JGR took another step toward securing the future when it signed William Sawalich last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sawalich, 16, made his Craftsman Truck Series debut at Martinsville in April, but he\u2019s mostly been learning his craft in the ARCA Menards Series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>William Sawalich won in Michigan on Saturday<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">AAAAH, WHAT JUST HAPPENED\u2049\ufe0f\ud83d\ude31 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WilliamSawalich?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@WilliamSawalich<\/a> takes the win in the final laps at <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BerlinRaceway?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@BerlinRaceway<\/a>! <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/wpfb30vbqm\">pic.twitter.com\/wpfb30vbqm<\/a><\/p>&mdash; ARCA Menards Series (@ARCA_Racing) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ARCA_Racing\/status\/1670244654925721600?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 18, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Rookie driver William Sawalich has won two of the first four races to take the points lead in the ARCA Menards East Series. On Saturday, he was one of the 17 competitors at Berlin Raceway in Michigan for a race on the national schedule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Though Jesse Love dominated nearly the entire Berlin ARCA 200, Sawalich executed a late-race move to pass the No. 20 Toyota and deny Love his fourth consecutive victory. Sawalich tapped the left-rear panel on Love\u2019s car, moving him ever-so-slightly off his line and setting up the winning pass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt was a little bit more dirty than I wanted to,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arcaracing.com\/videos\/william-sawalichs-victory-lane-interview-at-berlin-raceway\/#1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sawalich said<\/a>. \u201cIt was the last lap and I\u2019ve had that happen to me before, and he totally had a lap to get me back.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That sort of ending was hardly a surprise for ARCA racing, a training ground for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Sawalich made his debut there for David Gilliland\u2019s team at Martinsville in April, finishing ninth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Jesse Love wasn\u2019t happy with the move by William Sawalich<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"William Sawalich, 13, Racing At Elko Speedway\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/BJ3pBifHTfQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The move William Sawalich pulled on Saturday to win the ARCA Menards race hardly registered on the scale for contact in racing, but that didn\u2019t stop Jesse Love from taking offense despite extending his lead over Frankie Muniz in the national series standings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Love took no consolation from Sawalich\u2019s \u201cmore dirty than I wanted\u201d comment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m glad there is some accountability, but I\u2019ve been raced by the No. 18 really dirty in a lot of different races throughout my ARCA career,\u201d Love said, \u201cso I\u2019m going to ballpark him every chance I get. So, I don\u2019t care.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Love, 18, has been driving in the series since 2020 and indicated he\u2019s out of patience with newcomers playing rough. He threw out a warning to Joe Gibbs Racing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been run into by people before and not done anything about it, so they\u2019re going to be building a lot of racecars,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arcaracing.com\/videos\/jesse-love-ive-got-to-set-an-example-to-kids-that-come-in-and-run-people-over\/#1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Love said<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Got a question or observation about racing?
