Fortunately, there\u2019s potentially a new <em>Malcolm in the Middle<\/em> project in the works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It likely won\u2019t come down to that, but the story of one of the top performers in the ARCA Menards Series demonstrates how tough the racing business can be financially \u2013 even for someone with talent and name recognition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-bryan-cranston-is-working-on-a-malcolm-in-the-middle-project\"><strong>Bryan Cranston is working on a \u2018Malcolm in the Middle\u2019 project<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1000\" src=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Frankie-Muniz.jpg?w=1024&amp;h=683&#038;strip=all&#038;quality=89\" alt=\"Driver and actor Frankie Muniz sits in the pits following the ARCA Menards Series Dawn 150 at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas. | William Purnell\/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images\" class=\"wp-image-1570494\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Driver and actor Frankie Muniz sits in the pits following the ARCA Menards Series Dawn 150 at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas. | William Purnell\/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We interrupt this racing story for a related development out of Hollywood:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A-list actor Bryan Cranston says he is working on a script for a <em>Malcolm in the Middle<\/em> revival, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.etonline.com\/bryan-cranston-says-hes-been-working-on-a-script-for-a-malcolm-in-the-middle-reunion-206784\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ETOnline reported<\/a>. It\u2019s not clear whether that would take the form of a movie, a one-off TV special or an all-out revival of the show that aired from 2000-06.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Malcolm in the Middle<\/em> followed a dysfunctional family, with Frankie Muniz in the lead role. Jane Kaczmarek and Cranston starred as Malcolm's parents, and Cranston earned three Emmy nominations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Obviously, there are no details yet on what the timeline would look like if the project comes to fruition. However, Muniz\u2019s racing schedule now that he has jumped into the ARCA Menards Series as a driver would have to be taken into consideration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Frankie Muniz plans to race in 2024 but has issues ahead in 2023<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/frankiemuniz?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@frankiemuniz<\/a> wants to win the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ARCA_Racing?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@ARCA_Racing<\/a>. However, he confirmed to <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Frontstretch?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Frontstretch<\/a> that his season is not fully funded.<br>Additionally, Muniz said he has a ride in racing SECURED for 2024, though he would not comment further.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/ARCA?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#ARCA<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/qchM6Kc21K\">pic.twitter.com\/qchM6Kc21K<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Mark Kristl (@MarkKristl) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MarkKristl\/status\/1670191725313155073?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 17, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Six races into the 2023 ARCA Menards schedule, actor-turned-driver Frankie Muniz, 37, has piled up five top-10 finishes and trails only Jesse Love in points, 288-268, in his debut in the series with Rette Jones Racing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI wish I did this 20 years ago because there\u2019s nothing as exciting as racing these cars,\u201d Muniz told <a href=\"https:\/\/frontstretch.com\/2023\/06\/19\/frankie-muniz-belongs-in-arca-wants-to-win-the-championship\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Frontstretch.com<\/a>. \u201cI love open-wheel racing. I thought that\u2019s what I wanted to do, and I enjoyed it when I did it. But after the start, everyone gets single file and you\u2019re kind of waiting for people to make mistakes. The wheel-to-wheel action of this is insane.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 20-race season continues Saturday at Elko Speedway in Minnesota. Muniz is one of 19 entries, but it\u2019s not clear how extensive his schedule will be over the remainder of the season after he disclosed the No. 30 Ford is not fully funded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the same time, Muniz is insistent that <a href=\"https:\/\/tobychristie.com\/2023\/06\/19\/i-will-100-be-racing-next-year-arca-rookie-frankie-muniz-talks-2024-plans-sponsorship-issues-for-2023\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">he will be racing again in 2024<\/a>, which feels a little like putting the cart before the horse since a strong finish to the current season would seem to be a requirement for funding the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI came into this with the intention of, \u2018I\u2019m doing this for my family. I\u2019m doing this for my son,\u2019\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019d rather not spend my money to finish the season. Our partners have been happy with what we have, with what we\u2019ve done and with the attention we\u2019ve gotten and the performance and stuff like that. I think people think that we\u2019re good because I\u2019m not out there asking for it. To be honest, we need help.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Frankie Muniz\u2019s predicament isn\u2019t all that unusual<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">This is my greatest accomplishment. The reality, though, is that his lack of experience didn\u2019t have backers beating down the doors to support a 37-year-old rookie. And a TV series that lives only in reruns now doesn\u2019t do the trick either.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Money is hard to come by at all levels of racing. In the Xfinity Series alone, Landon Cassill and Trevor Bayne are examples of drivers who\u2019ve proven their ability as recently as last season but couldn\u2019t bring enough backing with them for a team to make a car available this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the other hand, there have been drivers who\u2019ve bought their way into rides with family money and sponsorships arranged solely through family connections. It happens everywhere from ARCA Menards all the way up to Formula 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stewart-Haas Racing co-owner Tony Stewart actually delved into the subject this week as he explained the selection of 32-year-old Josh Berry to race in the NASCAR Cup Series next season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I'm not interested in some kid's father coming in and buying their way into the Cup Series,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/tony-stewart-joins-kyle-busch-joey-logano-as-the-latest-cup-series-champion-to-address-nascars-broken-business-model\/\">Stewart said<\/a>. \u201cI have zero interest in that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe want guys that earn their way, that work hard, that understand the values that it takes to be a top-tier driver, not one that just got his high school diploma and now, all of a sudden, he\u2019s a Cup driver.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Got a question or observation about racing?
