Widely excoriated for his overly aggressive and oftentimes downright careless style of driving<\/a> over a season-and-a-half in the NASCAR<\/a> Xfinity Series, Ty Gibbs<\/a> carried some significant baggage into his new role as a full-time NASCAR Cup Series driver for his grandfather\u2019s team in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But just past the halfway mark of his rookie campaign in NASCAR\u2019s premier division, Gibbs \u2014 the 2022 NASCAR Xfinity Series champion \u2014 has managed to steer clear of controversy and avoid making new enemies, at least for the most part<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Along with making repairs to his severely damaged reputation<\/a>, the 20-year-old grandson of NASCAR Hall of Fame team owner Joe Gibbs has pieced together a solid first season as the driver of Joe Gibbs Racing\u2019s No. 54 Toyota in the Cup Series. And he\u2019s done so while working through the grief of unexpectedly losing his father, Coy \u2014 a Joe Gibbs Racing executive \u2014 on the final weekend of the 2022 NASCAR season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
