During that conversation, show host Josh Sims asked the future Hall of Famer about his plans behind the wheel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Yeah, I'll be back in the car next year,&#8221; Johnson revealed. &#8220;With some personal matters taking place this year, it just hasn't seemed right to jump back in the car. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;But we're planning next season, and I'm very excited to run more races, for sure. I hope that we can announce my schedule and our partners that will be on board here before too long. But definitely expect to see me in the race car again next year.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-johnson-family-involved-in-tragedy\">Johnson family involved in tragedy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">As you may have seen, Jimmie Johnson has suffered a horrific family tragedy. As a result, he will not race at the Chicago street course this weekend. Team statement below. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/iLOFTNilgc\">pic.twitter.com\/iLOFTNilgc<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Jeff Gluck (@jeff_gluck) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jeff_gluck\/status\/1673755500209668096?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 27, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The &#8220;personal matters&#8221; Johnson referred to happened in late June when police reported that his in-laws and nephew were found dead in an apparent murder-suicide in Oklahoma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Law enforcement officials identified the victims as Jack Janway, 69, his wife Terry Lynn Janway, 68, and their 11-year-old grandson Dalton Janway, via a press release. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Johnson and his wife Chandra have been married since 2004. They have two daughters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The driver first addressed the tragedy in a July 28 statement on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CvQSgjJp5Nt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Instagram<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Our family is devastated by the profound loss of (Terry) Lynn, Jack and Dalton Janway,&#8221; the statement read. &#8220;We have been humbled by the outpouring of love and support during this unthinkably sad time and remain grateful for all of your compassion.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-racing-in-2024-will-be-very-different\">Racing in 2024 will be very different<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Jimmie Johnson raced a Honda in IndyCar but the Legacy Motor Club move to Toyota for 2024 still seems like a big change for someone associated with Chevrolet in NASCAR. As he mentioned this week, he didn't feel like it would be the right thing to do and race again in 2023.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interestingly, when he does get behind the wheel in 2024, it will be under a dramatically different set of circumstances. For his entire Cup career, the 47-year-old has driven for Chevrolet. This year, Legacy announced that it would be <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/should-toyota-regret-aligning-with-legacy-motor-club\/\">switching to Toyota<\/a> in 2024.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some fans have suggested it will be weird watching the veteran driving for a different manufacturer.
