By now, everyone knows his story. He was the final pick in the <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/final-2022-nfl-draft-grade-point-average-all-32-nfl-teams\/\">2022 NFL Draft<\/a> and pressed into the starting role after injuries mounted at the QB position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite having 261 players selected in front of him, Purdy has proven to be the best pick of the bunch. He's never lost in nine NFL starts and has the composure of a seasoned veteran. Purdy has quickly shed the <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/brock-purdy-shares-his-real-feelings-on-being-mr-irrelevant\/\">Mr. Irrelevant label<\/a> but refreshingly still lives the simple life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-brock-purdy-lighting-it-up-while-laying-low\">Brock Purdy lighting it up while laying low<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Rich Eisen Thinks Brock Purdy Is The 49ers MVP This Season | 10\/05\/23\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Ey3ZA6etxiI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Brock Purdy won the starting job this season, beating out Trey Lance, a player the Niners mortgaged a good part of the future to select with the third overall pick in 2021. With Purdy's emergence, the <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/the-san-francisco-49ers-own-up-to-the-worst-draft-day-move-of-all-time-after-trading-trey-lance\/\">Niners admitted their mistake with Lance,<\/a> sending him to the Dallas Cowboys this year for a fourth-round pick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We took a shot, and it didn\u2019t work out,&#8221; Niners GM John Lynch said after the trade to the Cowboys. &#8220;We own that, and we take accountability for it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They also took a shot with Purdy, and it's certainly working out. He won all five of his regular-season starts last year and is 4-0 through four games this year. He's completed 72.3% of his passes in 2023 and has yet to throw an interception. At 23 years old, Purdy is showing he can be the leader of a veteran team that's favored to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With Purdy-Mania taking over the NFL, the young QB continues to live his life as he's back in his days as a quarterback at Iowa State. He recently admitted on &#8220;The TODAY Show&#8221; that he still has a roommate (offensive lineman Nick Zakelj) and they split the rent. You won't see him driving any new fancy cars, either.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;So, I still have a roommate, one of the offensive linemen here,&#8221; Purdy said. &#8220;So he and I are still splitting rent. I still drive my Toyota Sequoia and other than that, it's pretty simple.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-purdy-has-always-maintained-the-same-demeanor-according-to-his-former-qb-coach\">Purdy has always maintained the same demeanor, according to his former QB coach<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Maddy Glab &amp; Steve Tasker steering the ship this afternoon. Manucci, a former Kansas State quarterback who was a backup in the NFL, was Purdy's personal quarterback coach. <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/brock-purdys-personal-qb-coach-dan-manucci-unfazed-by-49ers-rookies-success-ive-seen-it-since-high-school\/\">He told Sports7<\/a> in January that Purdy is the same person he was in high school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"par-6_38\">\u201cI had him in the summer when he was going into the 10th grade,\u201d Manucci said then. \u201cHe was focused, had a great work ethic, and he was dialed in. He was always, \u2018Thank you, sir.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"par-7_57\">\u201cI could work him all day, and he\u2019d never get bored with the process. We\u2019d work on footwork, balance, mechanics, transfer of weight. With him, we had to get his release a little higher. His poise doesn\u2019t surprise me. I\u2019ve seen it since high school. I\u2019ve also seen his mobility and escapability. He\u2019s always looking to grow.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The only surprise for Manucci was how far Purdy fell in the draft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI felt (he\u2019d go) third to fifth round,\u201d Manucci said. \u201cI couldn\u2019t believe he kept dropping. He had a hell of a career and broke every Iowa State record. He was MVP of the Fiesta Bowl.
