The math is not adding up on either side of what has unfolded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Agents, both current and former, find the entire saga to be embarrassing!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ohtani and the Los Angeles Dodgers cut ties with his long-time interpreter on Wednesday. Ippei Mizuhara no longer serves as his Japanese-English translator after five <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/tag\/mlb\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MLB<\/a> seasons together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He allegedly wired at least $4.5 million from the Japanese superstar\u2019s bank account to a bookie in order to cover his massive gambling debts. However, the timeline of events is rather suspicious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>A representative for Ohtani went <em>on the record<\/em> with ESPN to say that his client transferred $4.5 million <em>himself<\/em> to a bookie on behalf of his interpreter, who allegedly racked up a massive debt.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A spokesperson for Ohtani presented Ippei to ESPN to provide a statement.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ippei says <em>on the record<\/em> to ESPN that Ohtani felt bad for him and paid off his debt so that he would never end up in this situation again. He said that Ohtani <em>never<\/em> placed a bet.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A spokesperson for Ohtani says that Ippei is lying after Ippei spoke with ESPN for 90 minutes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ohtani\u2019s lawyers released a statement to claim that Ippei is guilty of \u201cmassive theft.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ippei changes course to say that Ohtani did not know about his debt or gambling problem.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Although <a href=\"https:\/\/brobible.com\/sports\/article\/shohei-ohtani-investigation-mlb-suspended-gambling-ippei-interpreter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Major League Baseball does not have enough evidence to remove Ohtani from the Dodgers<\/a>, yet, there was <a href=\"https:\/\/brobible.com\/sports\/article\/twitter-x-thread-shohei-ohtani-throwing-games\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a concerning trend with some of his games<\/a> in recent years and <a href=\"https:\/\/brobible.com\/sports\/article\/bookie-told-bettors-shohei-ohtani-was-client\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a bookie reportedly told others that he was a client<\/a>. To make matters worse, <a href=\"https:\/\/brobible.com\/sports\/article\/shohei-ohtani-interpreter-ippei-mizuhara-lie-resume-bio\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mizuhara's resume might be fraudulent<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-shohei-ohtani-is-commanding-headlines\">Shohei Ohtani is commanding headlines.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>All of this goes to say that there are <em>a lot<\/em> of unanswered questions that both the MLB and federal government are investigating. The scandal is all anyone is talking about during Opening Week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That is not going over well with people around the league!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;It's embarrassing what's happening right now,&#8221; said one prominent player agent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/mlb\/columnist\/bob-nightengale\/2024\/03\/24\/shohei-ohtani-gambling-mlb-2024-predictions\/73082210007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">to USA TODAY<\/a> Sports. &#8220;This is supposed to be a great time, getting ready for the season, and we're going through this. It's ugly.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another former agent echoed those sentiments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe reason baseball is so concerned is that even with this big shift towards gambling is the one thing that can damage professional sports is the perception of by fans that the games are not played on an even playing field, and that the games are fixed,&#8221; Leigh Steinberg said. \u201cI\u2019m sure there will be a million conspiracy theories that will be passed around, but often times the truth will be simpler. This is just the beginning.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Steinberg is right.
