After Shaw stepped down from Stanford in 2022, he expressed a desire to return to the <a href=\"https:\/\/sports7.us\/nfl\/\">NFL<\/a>, where he spent nearly a decade as an assistant coach.<\/p>\n<h2>Denver Broncos hire David Shaw, who worked alongside Sean Payton as offensive assistants in 1997<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cVery excited. I think they\u2019ve got a really exciting young team retooled from last year and they did a great job in the draft and I\u2019m looking forward to watching it firsthand,\u201d Shaw told Chris Tomasson of the <em>Denver Gazette<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Shaw, who turns 52 on July 31, and Broncos coach Sean Payton worked together as offensive assistants with the Philadelphia Eagles in 1997. Shaw also worked as an assistant in the NFL for eight other seasons with the Oakland Raiders (1998-01) and Baltimore Ravens (2002-05).<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">We\u2019ve named David Shaw as Senior Personnel Executive, GM George Paton announced.<\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\udcf0 \u00bb <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/10LQpZW2iI\">https:\/\/t.co\/10LQpZW2iI<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/h9UVvLqZ5a\">pic.twitter.com\/h9UVvLqZ5a<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Denver Broncos (@Broncos) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Broncos\/status\/1803799233184559429?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 20, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Last year, Shaw was one of the candidates to interview for the Broncos' head-coaching job for which Payton was hired.<\/p>\n<p>In January, he interviewed for the Chargers' head-coaching job, which went to former Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh.<\/p>\n<p>Shaw is the winningest head coach in Stanford history, with a 96-54 record.<\/p>\n<h2>Shaw served as Jim Harbaugh's offensive coordinator at Stanford<\/h2>\n<p>Moreover, Shaw was the offensive coordinator on Harbaugh's staff in 2007 and was promoted to the head-coaching role in 2011 after Harbaugh left to coach the San Francisco 49ers.<\/p>\n<p>Shaw, a native of San Diego, California, is the only four-time Pac 12 Coach of the Year in the conference's history, winning three conference championships and two Rose Bowls during his tenure as coach.<\/p>\n<p>According to NFL.com, Stanford produced 42 NFL draft picks and six first-round selections under Shaw: Andrew Luck (2012, No. 1), David DeCastro\u00a0(2012, No. 24),\u00a0Andrus Peat\u00a0(2015, No. 13),\u00a0Joshua Garnett\u00a0(2016, No. 28),\u00a0Solomon Thomas\u00a0(2017, No. 3) and\u00a0Christian McCaffrey\u00a0(2017, No. 8).<\/p>\n<p>Shaw began his coaching career at Western Washington, following his collegiate playing career at Stanford.
